what quiet cooler for my 9800 pro will fit inside my shuttle?

as topic really, basically i need a quietish cooler for my radeon 9800 pro that doesnt take up an extra pci slot - does anyone make such a thing??

i've just measured, and i have 21mm from pcb -> case edge. i dont want something good, simply quiet.. thats all.. any suggestions?

I have a HIS IceQ 9800 Pro with the huge cooling system. A variation on the dustbuster design, but is very quiet. Check out if someone has that type of cooler available.

Sorry I missed that you wanted a cooler not to take up a PCI slot.

You have that many PCI cards?

I have a similar issue when I had the 9800 Pro and now a 6600GT. I am currently drifting towards a Point Of View Ice Chameleon but as of yet, no-one has reviewed it, and it looks quite thick, it's going to be a bloody tight squeeze (and there are no dimensions - only for the fan module at 12mm) and there are no noise ratings apart from PoV saying it's quiet (wouldn't trust them)... If you can forego your behind PCI slot, maybe a thin heatpipe solution might do it, but again, I haven't ever seen one (the Zalman definitely wasn't thin). I would definitely NOT recommend a Vantec Iceberq 4 which someone said was quiet... it spun at 5000rpm and whistled loud, it was a better grade heatsink than the stock one but noiser though the noise was nicer. I used a resistor in line with it and that made it quieter but not quiet enough.

Then I saw the height of it on page 7, I think even if you removed the plastic guard it'd still be too big, what do you think? I am tempted to get it though, grind off some of the massive centre pillar, re-lap and fit it. Given it's massive cooling capability and that it's designed for everything up to a 6800GT (Ultra maybe too) I would say you could lose about 5mm for a 9800 Pro or 6600GT.

Can you not get a passive cooler for the 9800, i believe that might fit.

It's going into a Shuttle so there definitely aren't any passive coolers that will fit. The Zalman's are way too big, as are the active POV and Vantec's apparently.

Guys, it's a Shuttle system it can only be a SINGLE SLOT solution. If you're wondering why I am taking such an interest it's because this is my fifth SFF system (an Aopen one) and I still have the problems of a quiet single slot graphics card/cooler being unavailable (if I want mainstream/high performance).

i tried the Vantec Iceberq4 CCB-A4C Copper VGA Cooler when my stock fan died. it was noisy as hell in my shuttle so not worth considering. will be interested to hear if anyone finds a nice quiet one that will fit.

Theres a guy on the [H] forums that modded the side of his shuttle to fit a VGA silencer, basically cut a hole round it and beaded it, took the badge of it too, looks super sweet.

Yeah, I didn't like the Vantec 4 but the Vantec 5 is meant to be much much better, so I'd recommend getting one of those and grinding off part of the base if it's too big to fit in a Shuttle. My problem I just realised with a 6600GT is that the HSI chip needs to be cooled as well.
