wat gpu u currently got?
I am curious about what sales are like at ATI and Nvidia when they release a new product in spring/summer vs before Christmas time. My guess is that ATI missing a fall/winter release date would be much more significant financially.
I know my next upgrade time is coming whenever Age of Empires 3 is released :)
When the 6800 series drops in price, and it's doing so, nVidia will have everything covered really. Perhaps a 7800 Ultra but as there isn't really anything important new in the 7800s, other than high performance, it's not really necessary to put out new products IMO.
ATi need some good new products with the next gen and this delay means they are further being beaten by nVidia. At least the x800GT is a good card for the money so they have gained some ground.
Darn it, i hope it makes it out when i'm due to upgrade my PC, otherwise at least by then the X850XT will have dropped in price :D hopefully anyway. Its about time ATI had a GPU that showed nVidia whats what.
I'm hoping to get a new GPU at X-mas, but I hope the R520 is cheap and powerful :P!!!
It's probably worth waiting for the release anyway - even if you want a 7800. I can't believe they will push the prices any higher - they are already extreme and well beyond the mainstream.
If the ATI cards are better, the 7800s will come down in price to compete. If the ATI card's not better, they themselves will be cheaper. With the CPUs in most peoples system I think going for a cheaper, slightly less powerful card is probably a better decision anyway.

Truth? We really don't know yet. Best to wait until it's released and see what spec the tests are being done on. Anytime you see cards that you know should be performing differently showing similar results, you know it's not gfx card limited.Quote:

Bit of an odd statement that. If its limiting now and graphics cards are advancing faster than cpus it seems likely it will be even more limiting in future, no ? Taking a sidestep, you coudl say in future dual core cpus will mean there will be more cpu power to keep up with graphics cards, but then the 3500+ is only going to be more limiting again....so chemical ali's thinking would seem logical.
I would tend to agree with the statement saying in the future its less of a limitation, simply because, historically at least, games evolve in a way which pushes current graphics cards far faster than a compartive CPU. i.e. the adding of more pixel shader effects rather than the refining of AI routines.
so in other words while a 7800GTX might require an FX (just guessing, im not actually sure) to not be CPU limited now in the future with more and more special effects being plunged into games (remember seeing farcry for the first time?) the graphics card will become stressed quicker than the CPU and a 3000 maybe to keep up with a 7800GTX playing a game a year or 18months or so in the future.
Or thats how i think of it.
