    Graphics Card Model numbers confusing?

I'm not sure if anyone else is as confused as me, but i'm getting to the point where i can't work out what what graphics card beats what.

I mean going back a couple of ranges it was much easier to decide what was better.

    9000 std, pro
    9500 std, pro
    9700 std, pro

    now we have....

    X800
    X800 Pro
    X800 GT
    X800 XT
    X800 XL
    X850 XT
    X850 XT PE
    X850 Pro
    X850 XL

And this is just the ATI product range, add in your GT, GTX, Ultra, LE, std for Nvidia and all i get is a brain ache working out which card is better than which.

Does anyone else think its about time the graphics card companies give us some clearer labelling over a set of cards that i can't see the wood from the trees...

To begin with, the order of speed was okay:

    X800 Pro, X800XT, X800XTPE

If we add in the new X800s, it is still fairly simple (although I'm not sure about X800XL and X800XT):

    X800GT, X800, X800 Pro, X800XL, X800XT, X800XTPE

The X850s are what make it slightly more complicated - this is my guess at order:

    X800GT, X800, X800 Pro, X850 Pro, X800XL, X800XT, X800XTPE, X850XT, X850XTPE

I think it would be easier if there wasn't the X800XT or X800XTPE, and possibly no X850Pro.

Choice is hard to make as you never see all the cards reviewed against each other so see a complete "graphics" review, apart from tomshareware where i don't trust the results shown.

    X800GT, X800, X800 Pro, X850 Pro, X800XL, X800XT, X800XTPE, X850XT, X850XTPE
And this is my point, i'd expect the X800 to be slower than the 850 product set. Yet its not, in the case of the X850Pro etc.

Maybe a quarterly review of cards (summary wise) would be useful for another of hexus's brilliant guides then.....

The other thing to factor in is obviously price too, i just get confused, if i don't understand the products i don't buy them.... which give me value power for limited cash etc...

There was also the annoyance with the 9200 cards being slower than the 9000 cards for example. Its confusing at any level you want to buy at.
