I was under the impression that DDR3 was just used to get higher frequencies but suffered from looser latency. So i wouldnt need to get my ram as fast as the DDR3 for the same performance. Maybe this is complete rubbish.
Also remember that my core is running at 397mhz which is more than the GTs 350mhz and almost at the Ultras 400mhz. So we'll see how it compares when ive done some testing.
-
yerp...I do think ur will on par with at least the 6800GT (bcoz of the 16p,6v)....post the result as I want to compare it with mine.... ;)
-
Yeah but with ddr you wont get nowhere near as high as 1GHz for the memory. Im interested to see how the performance compares to an actual GT model. I get 4850 for my GT in 3dmark05, and when im clocked higher with 420/1130 speeds (which is what it runs at now) im touching the 5900 mark..
Post your scores and we compare :D

Well im having a lot of problems with the rest of my system so im afraid ill have to keep you waiting. also its hard to compare our systems as they are so different.
Btw, how on earth did you get scores that high, am i thinking his stock scores are about 1000 more than to be expected or am i getting confused again?
-
mine is 4673....bear in mind that mine is 12p,6v as scarlet infidel has all his pipelines unlock....so I think he might be faster than 6800gt at stock...
-
I dont think itll be any faster. I give up with 3dmark, its being a pain. I might try aquamark.
-
Hmm, maybe i was rejoicing too soon. For some reason overclocking is reducing my performance. I have all pipes set as per stock:
Aquamark graphics scores:
300/700 - 5757
397/853 - 4152
I get similar odd results in 3dmark, anyone know why? Im new to all this grapics card tinkering.
Edit: latest driver now and i get this (clocks marginally higher now):
398/857 - 4548
Its all very odd.
Edit 2: I tried increasing the ram and core speeds seperately:
398/700 - 4451
300/857 - 5748
So the cpu increase seems to reduce the performance and ram increase seems to do nothing. Any help guys?
-
Perhaps this is the reason why its a 6800le?
-
Well true, its fair enough if its faulty then ill have to live with it. But id still like to know why. Its not a heat thing.
-
I knwo im posting more here than anyone else but its an easy way for me to keep track of what ive done.
At stock speeds with all pipelines i get 7971 in aquamark so thats a nice increase even if overclocking wont help any further.
-
Sometimes the pipes are not completely broken, but corrupt the data. Therefore they lok like they work, but give poor results. Have you tried getting fps data from games, for example using fraps?
-
Well why would i get the above problems even when using the default pipelienes? The other are still masked during those tests. Ill try fraps in a bit, but its hard to judge sometimes.
Edit: Fraps confirms it, theres a certain bit in battlefield that i get about 63 fps at stock (unlocked pipes) but with about a 20-25% overclock i get about 20% lower performance at about 52fps.
-
I have heard of this before, but can't remember exactly why it was. But it is known and i remember its not a faultly card as such.
-
Do you mean you think its fixable or just a rare freak of electronics to be left well alone?
-
hmmm...I do think it happens to me b4....that's why I'm using bios mod to overclock my gpu...I do think that the driver would not allow for overclock...(as rivatuner and coolbit 1st check with ur driver for the oc)...hope this helps...try using bios to oc ur gpu

It turns out it was a simple case of nvidias over sensitive throttling. I have disabled it now. Ill start all my testing again and get back to you with the results.
