Sweeeet! Unlocked all pipes on 6800le.

I have just upgraded from a damaged 9700pro to a Leadtek 6800le. It performed as expected for a card costing £82.19, itd do for general gaming, nothing too demanding.

I then decided to see if i could unlock anything. Low and behold all 16 pixel pipes and 6 vertex pipes are open and all seems well. My performance has increased dramatically. I have only tested by playing the battlefield 2 demo (till i can afford the fulll thing) though.

Does anyone know any sure way to test the pipes or would it be obvious if they were faulty (like checker-boarding on my 9700pro).

Now, ill see if i can overclock this card much as an added bonus... :devilish:

Just had a play this is how ive done so far:

Before/After

Pixel pipelines: 8/16
Vertex pipelines: 4/6
Core speed: 300/397
Memory: 700/853

Now i need to test this to make sure its stable and stays so cool, see if i can push any further and then consider upping the voltage. So far im a happy bunny.

Would probably be obvious if it was faulty - nice one!

Set rthdribl running for an hour or so to test your temps, and watch or artifacts, if there are none youre probably set.

Wow, does that mean its at a 6800gt sort of performance then? For half the price? What did you do to unlock the pipes?

Well the thing is, if you unlock the pipes you dont seem to be able to shift the speeds up at all. However if you put the speeds up first then unlock the pipes there doesnt seem to be a problem.

Is it possible to try the card at speeds higher than the driver thinks that they will pass its tests (manually not automatic detect) or is that the limit without changing voltage?

You can try it, but its not guaranteed to work. POssibly the pipes are locked because they couldnt operate at the higher frequencies, rather than because they dont work. You could try disabliing each in turn and seeing if that helps. Although i dont know whether the extra pipes are worth the clock speed sacrifice or not.

Nice one. How exactly did you go about it? (BIOS flash?) Also, did you do a before and after benchmark (with 3dmark2005 etc)? I would be really interested to see that mate :)

wow...you are really lucky...but if you want to be really sure if your 16 pipelines are unlock and good....try the 3dmark03 mothernature test and pixel shader 2.0 test.(only these would give a hint if your pixel is bad) ..if some of the pipelines are bad...the water should not be as smooth and some of the pixels in the elephant would appears as white...This are the tests that manage to bring out the bad pixels out of my 6800LE...If you plan to unlock and overclock..I suggest using bios mod...I only manage to get mine 430/860 with 1.4 volt...if you want to permanently unlock the pipes...use rivatuner patch script..anyway good job mate... ;)

Atm its all temporary for testing, when im happy ill mod the bios and try playing with voltages. Ill download 3dmark and give it a whirl. What tests would you like to see? Im guessing:

1.Stock
2.All pipes and stock speeds
3.All pipes and overclocked

Anything else?

Nah, the GTs are 1GHz DDR3 memory not normal DDR which the 6800NU/LE versions have. So in my opinion its nowhere near the performance of a GT/Ultra but you have a considerable performance increase compared to stock by the sounds of it. When you get battlefield 2 put everything on max settings... if you had a GT type performance everything will be silky smooth and super fast frame rates :D

yerp...its not as fast of ultra or gt i think..but i do think its faster than 6600GT...and its a lot cheaper than a 6600GT...
