Help me choose!! GT or GTX?

    Hey,

Gonna order my graphics card soon and i've gotta decide which one to go for, i'm gonna choose either the cheapest gt or a cheap gtx?

    Here are the options..

    256Mb Gigabyte GV-NX78T256V-B 7800GT - £260
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=250971

    Gainward PowerPack! 7800GTX Ultra/3500 PCX XP 256MB PCI-E - £323
    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=92584

Which one would you choose and why?

What's your current set-up? Whilst I'm hardly knowledgable on the state of current hardware, there's all this talk of bottle-necks in systems not allowing graphics cards to perform to their full potential due to lower-standard CPUs. The questions that should be asked are:

Will my current system allow the graphics card to excel?
If not, do I plan on making any other upgrades in the near future?
If not, what are the next options that are more suited to my system.

There's plenty of information on the forums regarding bottlenecking.. I couldn't comment on it, personally.

Not much help, I know... something to think about in the meantime, whilst we wait for everyone else to wake up

Thanks for the reply Theo...i must sleep soon 0.o

    Well my system will be..
Athlon 64 3500+ Venice (gettin here tomorrow..i mean today) hopefully o/ced as high as it can go
    Corsair xms4400 2 x 512mb
    Abit an8 Ultra Mobo
    Tagan 480w psu
x800xl atm but sellin it to a mate
I'm using a 19" mitsubishi/nec diamond pro 930sb atm but i will be having a 22" mitsubishi/nec diamond pro 230sb so i'll be playing high resolutions hoping the monitor doesn't fall thru my desk

This will be like the only upgrade for a while, next step will be to sell my 1gig of ram for 2 gig of corsair value mem which can reach ddr510.

There is a £60 difference between the two, so i'm hoping i'll choose the right one.

    Thnx again Theo

I have a Venice 3200+ @ 2.8GHz and also have the Gigabyte 7800GTX. Its a great card and plays all games with ease. If you can afford it I would deffinately say go for it.

If you are spending this much, it is probably best to go for the GTX on the grounds it is only a small premium over the GT......I say GTX, now their prices are more sensible

£60 is still a significant increase. If you get the GT, there's always the possibility that you can unlock the extra pipes.

Nobody has managed to do this yet on a retail version of the GT. And believe me: they have tried

That's not good to know. I was thinking of getting a GT as well.

Gainward is normally quite expensive, so not fully sure why its so cheap? Have you checked it not just a overclocked GT (and Ebuyer just cheating with the name)?

I would personally pick the GT one (well iam for my next rig), basicly based on reviews on people opinions.

The GTX is cheap for a Gainward card and not bad price overall though. If you can afford it and seeing as the GT is unlikely to have unlockable pipes, you might as well get the GTX.

I say get the GT and spend the left over money on a nice lunch. Don't see why your upgrading from a X800 I'm using a 9700Pro and I am a happy camper. (Although Battlefield 2 is a little choppy)
