    7800GTs

For some reason I am thinking of trading up from an x800xt to a 7800GT and am feeling this is a bit of an extravagance.

    Anyone know the performance increases?

Secondly anyone know out of the 7800GTs which ones are the best. The prices seem to vary by about £50.

The reviews I have read say the difference is due to a few being overclocked (which makes very little difference) and the software.
A key difference to me would be are any brands better than any of the others i.e asus, gigabyte, msi, xfx and importantly does anyone know if any of these are excessivley loud?

Hey mate, i was thinking of gettin a 7800gt too, all the brands have the same reference cooler so noise levels will be the same. The overclocks you get on them will just be luck i think, should look out what the brands offer, warrantys software etc. Personally i had my heart set on the Gigabyte 7800gt which looked very good and scan sells it for only £260 last time i checked! Cheapest of the lot!

I got the Gigabyte 7800GT from scan and its great. I initially got 6600 on 3dmark05 but with a 10% overclock i got it up to well above 7100! Great card, and at £260 with free delivery it doesnt get much cheaper atm.

i dunno if a move from a high end X800 to a 7800GT is worth it.

Especially if you play at 1280x1024 or below as your CPU bound

My computer in generally is quite noisy, I'm not sure if its the 7800GT though. I have a stock HSF on a A64 3700, 2 120mm fans on a Raidmax Ninja and the 7800GT itself. Its pretty damn noisy, and im getting 34,35,43 respectively for CPU, Chassis and GPU.

I find the Gigabyte fairly noisy.

It replaced a Gainward Golden Sample 6800GT which quite literally SCREAMED....the Gigabyte is definatly quieter but not a huge amount
