    I'll take two!

Hmm... how effective is that fan design? Looks like it sucks the heat off the heatsink instead of blows it across it from the case...

The cooler is very impressive on the ATI cards - I mean *very* impressive, I will let PD explain it fully.

Got to say - the memory config (if that is 512) it reminds me of Parhelia....

... but also the card does look fairly NVIDIA like...

I actually wish nvidia had implemented a cooling solution like this on their cards. Thats an excellent cooler that drwas the air across the heatsink and out of the case (ala NV5). Looks pretty sweet.

Still no confirmation of the pipes yet tho - I have heard that there was only 16

The thing is - it will compete with GTX since it is such high clock speeds.. I wonder what efficiency is like?

Maybe if they clock it up a bit more?

Yeah the fan design looks good, sucks the air off the warm heatsink and right out the back of the case, very nice. Wonder what the specs will be like, I've heard a 32 pipe version exists but only like 10 pieces of it are in existence.

    512MB RAM
    ~600 MHz core
    ~650-700 MHz memory
    Dual slot cooling
    Dual DVI

    R520 XL
    256MB RAM
    ~500 MHz core
    ~500 MHz memory
    Single slot cooling
    VGA + DVI

    R520 LE
    256MB RAM
    ~450 MHz core
    ~450 MHz memory
    Single slot cooling
    VGA + DVI

    R520 XT Crossfire Edition
    256MB RAM
    ~600 MHz core
    ~650-700 MHz memory
    Dual slot cooling
    VGA + DVI

PCI-E Only as well, which of course was expected.

    Quote from the Techpowersup page:

"In the thread at HKEPC linked above (translated) "it is likely that the ATI R520 will change its name to ATI Radeon X1800 series, the estimated release date for the ATI X900 series is early October".
One of these two names is correct my source says, he didn't want to reveal which one though. The October release date is correct."

So it seems it might be called X900 or X1800! Place your bets now! I'm going for X1800 as it's a big step up in numbers from X800/X850.

Or maybe the X900 is the budget range, not sure though.

That fan may look impressive but I have my doubts as to whether it's any good or not. My X850XT has got a similar fan and it's not that good. It's nothing compared with an ATI Silencer.

the OTES channel seems a little small, the low profile HS flow channel is a little cramped as well, wonder if that measly 60mm centrifugal fan will generate enough pressure drop to force those warm air from the fins (rather than just bypassing the whole thing thru the gaps between the plastic housing and the copper sink).. A worthy effort on fluid mechanics but I wouldnt call that impressive by any means as I've seen much more efficient fin coolers..

The specs certainly looks delicious tho..

Yeah I see what you mean, never been a fan of the Artic VGA Silencer type coolers, always seemed low quality and plasticy. Hopefully it will support the very nice Zalman VF-700Cu which I have a spare lieing about somewhere.

The NV Silencer series aren't that great but the ATI Silencer 5 I got lowered my temps but nearly 30C!

Sounds like a badly mounted stock cooler, that's a serious temperature change.

Could have been, or maybe the stock thermal compound is pants. Who knows, I'm pretty happy now that my X850xt tops out at 55C instead of over 80C. Plus it's much quieter now as well.

The R520 cooler looks, in fact, exactly like my stock cooler so I don't have much confidence that it's gonna perform well.

The lack of memory sinks at the back of the PBC also worries me, GDDR3 at 1400MHz has got to have sinks on both sides of the board.. or else its going to be really hot to the touch..

Could have done better by a connecting duct-fin channel that forces to air to pass thru the copper rather giving any chances of a bypass.. A claw-like duct-fin extending towards the back of the PBC as ram sinks could have been better.. Also, since its already going to be an OTES (dual slot), they might as well get a bigger fan.. at least a 90mm centrifugal or a 45mm co-axial.. Larger cfm for lower dB..

Are you sure that's not a hoax 6800 card? (ok, lack of sli aside )

Wonder what's behind the mosaic'd parts.
