    Which Graphics Card?

I am looking to buy a PCI-Express Graphics card and i am stuck between these 2:

    Nvidia 6600GT 128MB

    ATI X800GT 128mb

These 2 are within my price range. approx £110 or there abouts. Should i aim a bit higher and go for a 256mb version of the above? I like a quite PC too so should i get a Passive card instead? Any help would be great. Ta

X800GT is the one to go for from the reviews I've seen.

Saw this passively cooled gigabyte 256mb x800 (not GT so one step up from that) for only £124 at scan: Silence is always good, bit more pricey though.

definetly get a 256 card if you can and the X800GT looks to be the better bet as well. £124 is a better investment for your PC then saving a few pennies and going 128.

So far the X800 / GT has it. Is it better to go for a GT or not? What is the difference? Ta

i agree with that. 256 will give you a small benefit but if you don't use a large screen you'll only be wasting your money, which you can spend on a better card.

So, you don't recommend the 256 X800? Is the X800 still better than the Nvidia 6600 GT etc?

Think the x800 will probs be ahead of a 6600gt but an x800gt is about par, perhaps a bit faster in more games than the nVidia, reviews seems to show that the 256 memor does make a difference sometimes so would consider 256mb

The X800 has 12 pipes to the X800GTs 8, meaning the X800 should be faster than both the 6600GT and X800GT. Of course, it's up to you whether you think the higher price is worth it.

    Still a good price though.

What about compatability with current games and the new Quake 4 that is coming out? Do you think Nvidia will win the trophy with that one?

but the DDR3 in GTO and GT brings in some merits as well.. so I woudn't give everything off to a vanilla x800 just yet...

3dmark 2005 is a probably the easiest graphics card test to use:

    So options are:

score and price (x800gt score from hexus review)

    6600gt: 3560 £100
    x800gt (256mb): 3980 £104
    x800: 4352 £124

    points per pound:
    6600gt: 35.6
    x800gt: 38.26
    x800: 35.1

So x800gt looks like best value for money. The x800 is an older card, the x800gt is for all intensive purposes at slightly slower version of it.

Then there is the silence argument. The x800gt isn't silent. However the x800 is and also this gigabyte 6600gt. So if you're looking for silence that would be the best bet.

phew, glad I got that out of my system

Still at that price. I prefer the X800 256mb though.
