Second lot of R520 Benchmarks and Review

    http://hardinfo.dk/show.asp?page=5971

Pretty much the same as the other one this time, although its in a foreign language the benchmarks are universal in telling us. This are looking bleak.

well thats better than the last one.

in strong ATi games (farcry, HL2) it beats the 7800GTX marginally at lower resolutions (and sometimes in higher) but in NV games it gets slaughtered.

I wouldnt call that set a bad result at all, but NV are still in the lead.

And that must surely must be a kicker for ATI?

I will definately go for an nVidia card if I was choosing a high-spec machine right now, and this just put the icing on the cake for me, but I am not going to upgrade anyway so thats not much matter

If the benchies are true then the only way ATI can convince people to buy their cards is on price, but with GTX's around the £300 mark and GT's around £230 now it will be a very tough sell....

tbh in quite a few ways this is good news for me

i mean, they loose by only a very slight margin

unless you are obessed and must have the ultimate system always (waste of cash) it doesnt matter at all

but because people like that exist ATi will be forced to drop their prices, because effectively they are the worst company on the market if they are beaton by nvidia, to sell the r520s, which means people like me who really dont care about 5-10 fps drop under a nVidia card will be able to pick up the next generation of ATi cards for low prices

    which will be good

just glad ATi isnt going bankrupt or something worse over this....which some people said a while back, when the r520 was delayed

We'll have to see how ATI plans its price war.. if both were to charge 300 quid for a card... I'll take the 24 pipe 7800GTX thank you very much..

ATI will have to drop its X1800XT prices below GTX.. and I mean WAY lower.. lets hope the final retail X1800s are below Nvs prices.. and that R580 does indeed have 24 pipes, or else there's really no point.. X1800XTGT anyone?
    Me want Ultrabook

Yeah basically if driver optimisations don't make a huge improvement ATI are going to have to dramatically lower the prices for the cards to have any kind of appeal imho.

    Im happy with my 7800GT

I think it's wise to wait until crossfire and 2x x1800 with released drivers are out until anyone takes any comparisons/benchies seriously. ATI aren't stupid, they've been in the graphics market for donkeys.

It would be silly to release a card that was more expensive yet performed less well than the Nvidia "equivalent". You also have to remember that crossfire is a young technology and historically ATI have always improved their drivers significantly over the course of time.

I certainly can't wait for teh reviews because it will determine which way I jump for my new rig. May the best gfx card win!

Fingers crossed, I was hoping to go back to ATI next time but will still get the best high end deal I can...just like the 6800GT was the high end sweet spot last year.

    Geforce3>Radeon9800>Geforce6800>Radeon X1800???

Yesterday some of us (at Extreme Overclocking) compared the results to the first review. We found that the R520 results were exactly the same and the 7800gtx results were lower than the other review. I dont know what you want to make of that but we really need some real benchmarks and I dont think ATi can afford to price this above the 7800gtx.

Both stories are 'the same' - in the sense that the person who made up the first one is now struggling to get others to carry his 'lies'

We have over 100 of Europe's top press heading out to the ATI Tech Day at the end of September

In addition to the obvious names like HEXUS, PC Pro, Xbit Labs, Tom's Hardware and The Register...

...we have also invited one of Europe's top nVidia fan sites

By the way, in the original version of this 'story', the editor also accused all of the sites who are going of 'being bent'... bet that won him some friends

As far as I can tell, there are only 2 possibilities with these 'benchmarks':-
    1) He lied and made them up to try and hurt us because he was not invited to our Editor's Day
    2) His 'trusted contact' fed him false data in 'a complete stitch up' to make him look stupid on a global stage

Either way, these graphs are a pile of donkey-dung and bear no resemblance to the final numbers

Overall, I would ask 'What kind of loser runs reviews on products that they have never seen ?'

I know of several cases where this has happened in the past - and none of the journalists in question are respected by their peers

Honest numbers will be available to the world in just over 2 weeks - hardcore enthusiasts should wait until they see these numbers before deciding on just how good our next generation products are

well i persoanlyl dont think ati will have something to match a BFG 7800gt OC for £200+vat and since i can get this now its what im going to do. Even though i mainly play HL2 i know this card will still give great performance. I was eagerly waiting the new ati cards but comapred to what the price surely will be i can't wait anymore

Too little to late i fear, and at the prices i have seen they can keep them

I can't think of a good reason for somebody to pay extra money for lower perfomance, maybe ATI can ??

No matter when you buy - there will always be a faster product out in a few month's time - that is the downside of being interested in this kind of leading edge technology. You will definitely have more choices in about 3 weeks time... but - if you really want to buy now - and the GT suits your needs/price bracket - then go for it my friend
