Well some of that isn't related to DX10. Destructable objects is to do with physics and how the model is actually built as well as deformable meshes. Volumetric clouds is simply an old technique probably improved using later versions of directx as well as particle effects

Not that impressive to me, just looks like some decent coders and art work

Looks decent to say the least. Good stuff.

I'm hoping the physics thing takes off, I think it could really revolutionise almost all games.

Imagine every time you do something in a game it is unique, just like real life. No more predefined animations... every movement a character makes will differ depending on the environment around him.

Some of the features were already introduced before but all them mixed together look really nice. What grabbed my attention was the realtime soft-shadows.

The soft shadows and the physics are a great improvment - one step closer to reality...

Well physics have been around for years and years. In fact, The HL1 engine (obviously modified from the original quake engine) included physics. It was never activated though, but the code is all there. Due to many bugs they never actually included physics into HL1. Otherwise there are many physics engines out there, Havok, Novodex and so on. The actual libraries available are very advanced, but it's how you apply the physics to the environment is what counts.

Soft shadows can be rendered in real-time now, but from that demo i think that they've improved that in the latest version of DirectX.

From what I remember it's not going to be called DirectX10? They're changing the name of it to something completely different I thought?

I think they were going to call it "Windows Graphic Foundation" but decided to drop it and go with DirectX 10 in the end.
