    Unhappy X850 Xt Pt

I have had problems with this card from the moment I installed it.
First of all the drivers on the installation disc that came with the card would not install. When I tried I got the error message "installation cannot continue please install windows VGA drivers to continue" They were installed
So the device properties were showing an I/O conflict with no drivers installed
I solved that problem by downloading cat 5.8 from ATI witch installed fine.

Then I noticed my core and mem clocks were 500 and 500 respectively correct me if I am wrong here but on a platinum card should the mem clock not be more like 1000
Puzzled by this I thought maybe I need to install the Redline tweak utility that came with the card but that will not install either I get the message card not supported

Just to make maters worse any time I tried to uninstall the ATI driver in add remove programs my computer froze and the only thing I could do do with it was hit the power button. But then last night i uninstalled it with the ATI uninstall utility wich would never work before.

The freezing also happens randomly sometimes when opening newly installed programs like windows media or 3D Mark and PCmark More often with 3D Mark 2001
With a score of 6290 in 3Dmark 2005 and PCmark 2005 score of 4530 I would say the card runs OK
I have also fitted a new CPU more RAM and a new PSU!
Although I have eliminated the CPU and RAM by testing correct me if I am wrong but I wouldn’t of thought the PSU would cause this problem.

I have now installed the new cat 5.9 but it is still freezing

I could really do with some ideas here I am in serious danger of loosing it with this problem and in the process destroying £1500 worth of PC

X850XT Platinum Edition has a core speed of 540 and a memory clock speed of 590. The memory is double clocked, so would have a rate of 1180. It does sound like something is faulty, maybe the BIOS is damaged.

I would try putting another video card back in and seeing if that has any problems. Failing that, exchange the card under warranty.

Tried the latest motherboard drivers? Run driver cleaner, then a fresh set of drivers? Overheating? You can test memory using Memtest86+, while Prime95 should test the CPU and RAM without testing the graphics card.

I will try upping the voltage I think its at 1.55v atm.
The core is 540 and the mem is 587 sorry i should have been more specific it was the 500-1000 diference i was wondering about.

I think it might be a good idea to try the CPU in another PC just to completley eliminate it

Hmm, it's not that long ago you could just nip over to the original manufacturers site ( like ATI.com ) and they had that sort of thing easaily available for download. Maybe they do it all in the drivers now (which doesn't help if your BIOS has gone iffy!) If it *had* gone faulty though, I would have expected it to give a checksum error on the video BIOS boot screen. Have you tried updating your motherboard BIOS? (hopefully available from the manufacturer's site).

There are so many possibilities with intermittent problems like this, It could be something like... the extra power connector on the video card has a broken regulator on the card, so it's pulling more power than it should from the motherboard. If it doesn't work after a few more days I would be tempted to send it back for a replacement. If that doesn't work either then it may be a motherboard problem that can only be fixed with a new one.

    Update

I reinstalled windows and whilst installing it froze! Then it froze whilst idling on the desktop.
I changed the processor and it froze whilst changing a track in windows media.
I have swapped the memory round changed the mem voltages flashed the bios with bios 16 .17 and 18 respectively nothing helps
I have changed the graphics card and tried my card in my sons PC, my sons PC was fine no probs but my PC froze

But then the next day I could not get it to freeze it ran smooth as a babies, I ran 4 instances of prime 95 and played music on media player No freeze?
So I tried uninstalling the ATI drivers and it froze I have tried this with both cards it freezes with both. (the other card is an Nvidia)
The only thing left for me to do now is take out the sound card and try a different PSU witch I don't think will make much difference
So I suppose that leaves me with a faulty £120 mother board
