I just upgraded to 5.9 - got a 9550 in the machine at work. Certain events (especially new message notifications sliding in and out of the tray in Skype) are VERY slow...Any ideas?

Bizarre - a third reboot fixed it
Same happened for me too if i remember correctly.. odd aint it..
Sounds like SmartGART, my computer is very slow when the ATI drivers are first installed and then the screen flashes and it's fast again.Quote:

Just a guess but thats what the problem sounded like.
I disable smartgart as soon as the driver is installed. Only ever had problems with it.
I spent AGES trying to disable smartgart and to manually set up the drivers. They kept reverting to "AGP: disabled" and gaming was decidedly disappointing for my 9800pro. Eventually I found some AGP/gart drivers for my motherboard and suddenly my framerates doubled* and the ingame (BF2) lag went away despite using higher settings for everything. Now I am scared to update them - they take far longer than nvidia drivers to install and seem to have much more trouble if you don't completely remove them first...
*may, or may not, be an exaggeration.
I never uninstall my drivers, and only problem ive had so far is the having to reboot a few times thing..
I recommend using Catalyst Uninstaller, just run it, reboot, install the new drivers, reboot, and then i also have a slow moving of everything, then just reboot again and everything is fixed.Quote:
