Exclamation ATI's Avivo vs. NVIDIA's PureVideo

    http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2551&p=1

Check it out... Looks like both are still far from perfect after all, and Ati's feared Avivo isnt even better then Nvidia's PureVideo?!

And looking at the comparison between the 7800GTX and 1800XT they both perform quite equally.. as far as I can tell it's gonna be price related!?

God, I hope prices are going to drop dramatically

Oh and by the way; http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26723 New Nvidia drivers, should boost performance... can't wait

wow - always considered the ATI cards better for video, i never tried nvidias purevideo. Sucks that you have to pay for it though...

Hey Sawyen, guess you don't get much studying done on your 'study rig' with that 6800gt

I was holding off buying a 7800GT for my HTPC until I'd seen the AVIVO features. The one thing that I was really looking for was the transcode/encoding support - to be able to offload the transcode (mpeg to divx) from my recorded TV onto the graphics card would be great. However, it doesn't look like those features are available yet, and the general quality of ATI's video doesn't look as good as nVidia's.

Hopefully nVidia will add video encode/transcode support at some point as this seems like a really cool feature.

    Purevideo user here as well

Works absolutely superb with MCE - TV is great, even better than the old nokia digibox on my TV downstairs and as some previous folks have said, the screenshots of the nvidia capture's generally look better quality, have better colour, hue and tones and even better vibrance.
