Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO² 256MB

    Hey guys,

Does anyone own this card? And if so did you encounter any probs unlocking the other pipelines?

I ordered one from overclockers (only place to have them in stock at the time) and i will be tinkering about with it tomorrow night.

    thnx

Not yet, I too have a Sapphire X800GTO2 coming in soon along with a retail Athlon X2 3800+. I just ordered last night though so I should have it by Friday.

Never fear though, I have yet to hear of a Sapphire X800GOT2 that couldn’t be unlocked and OCed to and above X850XT PE spec.

Well, for a few different reasons:

The X800GTO2 isn’t expensive and its price performance ratio is really quite remarkable IMO.

The X800GTO2 has the potential of being faster then the currently installed X800XL

And finally I have more then one PCIe motherboard and I have tentative plans of buying another PCIe motherboard. Therefore this can be seen as an upgrade for more then one system.

Well received the card today, read the instructions and was in dos for like 10 mins trying to figure out why it wasn't working....

But its now got 16 pipelines! And its clocked to 530 core 550 mem.

Gonna overclock it properly later. I just set the clocks to the ones above and ran ati tool for temps and to see if there are any artifacts!

An hour of cs: s and no probs!

    Really glad i bought it!

Either of you want a tutorial from me (a guy that had no clue! lol) The techpowerup isn't entirely accurate, but took me 10 mins to figure it out. I'm sure u guys wil be able to figure it out quicker.

I think I might be able to handle it but out of curiosity what was holding you up?

I figured, after asking around, that you simply download the flash utility and modified BIOS (as well as the original unmodified BIOS just to be on the safe side) and then make a bootable CD with nero (with said files). Then,....have at it!

It might be wise to change the name of the BIN file since it is supposedly a bit long for DOS but other then that I cant imagine what would crop up,…other then a bad flash,….

lol i didn't have much experience with dos and never flashed a gfx card before, so i followed the in depth instructions on the techpowerup.

But there is one bit where it says...
atiflash -p 0 ___.bin and it should be
flashrom -p 0 ____.bin yeah i renamed the bios in windows before i stuck it on the disk.

    Thanks for the info ja3h

Anyway, got it (X800GTO2) flashed it (Sapphire.X800GTO2_16P.Samsung16.BIN) to 16 pipes and its running at 520/578 core/MEM,....for now,...

    6238 3Dmarks,....

before with the X800XL it was about 5000 3Dmarks.

I also upgraded the CPU from an Athlon 64 3000+ to an Athlon 64 X2 3800+,...

    Just an update.

I was trying to take it easy on the card when I started out hence the slower 520/578 core/MEM specs. However, I have it running at X850XT PE spec now 540/590 core/MEM (about ~75C under load ~40ish idle) and have chosen to leave it there for the time being,…..

It will do more though. I have had the core up to about ~600 and the MEM at about ~600 too but not at the same time.

One really amazing card for the money.

    Wow,..

Ok finally got my rig up & running

Flashed the card & overclocked to XTPE speeds no hassle, probably gonna flash it to an XTPE bios next.

Temps -9c idle /13c under load just need to stop the condesation forming on the back of the card, dielectric grease is'nt cutting it. Probably have to glue some neoprene to the back or spray it with varnish. hmm

    Most excellent!!!

Yet another satisfied customer and the 100% success rate continues.

BTW, my understanding is that the next best thing to the Sapphire X800GTO2 is the Connect3D Radeon X800GTO 256MB (VIVO) which has been achieving similar numbers with respect to OC and unlocking. The success rate is not exactly 100% for unlocking the Connect3D though because there isn’t a guarantee of an R480 core. The success rate is still very high for the Connect3D though.

The great things about the Connect3D Radeon X800GTO 256MB is that price is much lower then that of the Sapphire X800GTO2. The Sapphire X800GTO2 is harder to find and some e-tailers have been raising the price of it to the point that its speed potential is almost negated.

I recently came across an Connect3D Radeon X800GTO 256MB card for as little as $154 (USA) after $25 rebate:

In contrast, my Sapphire X800GTO2 cost about $240.
