    7800 Ultra

    To quote:

"NVIDIA has told partners at a recent conference in Amsterdam that it won't be dropping its prices on 7800 series boards before Christmas.

It also told them to expect a 7800 'Ultra' with 512MB, very soon."

Interesting news, thanks for the 'Heads Up' - remains to be seen whether we will see something like a 7600...... ? I would like to think that any 'Ultra' model is more than just a 512MB version of a GTX, though, one would imagine that nVidia has a little something up their sleeves......

Again,... I myself don't think the ULTRA variant would just be a super clocked 7800GTX.. Theres way too many pre-oced GTX out there and there's very little headroom left to clock it up.. Nvidia wont want to release a divine hailed ULTRA only be to be surpassed by a watercooled XFX GTX that scaled better.. It'll just be repeating the 6800 age.. GT then made so much more sense than the 100 quid extra ULTRA..

I reckon we might be seeing either the 32 pipe rumour coming thru.. equiped with state of the art DDR4 (ok.. a little far fetched).. and runs 500MHz core and 2000MHz memory..

No ****.. if that comes out.. It'll be ATI's funeral.. (of cs.. if R580 wont turn out to be a 48pipe 1000MHz core.. 3000MHz memory devil).. ok.. i think i should stop... too early in the morning.. need more sleep..
    Me want Ultrabook

Throw away the power consumption advantage, lower bandwidth disadvantage and potential even higher fillrate to just slightly beat the XT is unlikely.

If nvidia do choose to do this, then I was right, with many others, in thinking that they were waiting for the 1800XT to pop out to measure how well it performs, and see what they can do to beat it.
