Where would my bottleneck be?

I decided that I need to upgrade the computer.
I already got my X800XL my Girlfriend has got me for Christmas.

I have, at this moment...

P4 2.4C Ghz(Northwood)800 MhzFSB with/Hyperthreading.
8IG1000MK Motherboard(AGP 8X)
512MB PC2700 DDR
OnBoard Video(32MB)
120GB Hitachi HD

Now, getting some advice earlier from you folks, let me know where my bottleneck would be if I got...this


INTEL PENTIUM 4 3.0E GHZ 1MB CACHE 800FSB

Getting the X800XL has already eliminated the only significant bottleneck you had. It will be so much faster than your onboard video it's not funny.

From there I'd try the extra & faster RAM first and only consider the CPU after you test it out on your fav games.

Unless you give that 3Ghz a little overclock boost.. that can become a significant bottleneck.. Northwood tends to clock pretty well with good enuf cooling. A slight bump to 3.5Ghz is definitely doable while still keeping those temps fairly low..

When u get stuff running then, there shoudn't be any bottleneck left.

you system shoudl run fine the 3.0GHz cpu shouldn't bottle Neck that Gpu.

If I were to O/C my 2.4, what kinda HSF should I get to get the best O/C results.
With just a HSF, how high do you think I can get her while running stable?

Zalman's 9550 or the 7700-Cu would be one of the better solutions.. 9550 wont come cheap, but its being hailed as a water-cooler equivalent... well.. as long as ur ambient temp within control..

How stable? Thats pretty subjective depending on the chip u got.. every chip is vastly different... You should be looking at around 3.2~3.4ish.. Might be a little tough going any higher without water.. And you would have to run them coolers on HIGH speed.. thats the annoying part..

The FATALITY version looks pretty convincing but its so rediculously expensive.. and BIG.. check ur motherboard footprint before getting them..
