    Dilema...

    Well.. after having to RMA my 6800GT I have been told my the supplier that I can not have a 6800GT as a replacement as they dont make them anymore... so, I have been given the choice of either;

6600GT 256mb or 6800 XT (LE) 128mb - Now my question is... which would be better?

    Thanks

    Craig

EDIT: Forgot to mention, both of these products are XFX

    6600GT: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/...urationId=9215
    6800XT: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/...rationId=44874

Okay, a bit of background is required

I worked for company A and bought a graphics card from one of our distributors in Sept of last year.

I left company A in April this year and started with company B.

Company A's account with distributor got closed for not paying bills.

Company B open account with the distributor.

    My graphics card dies.

I then sent my graphics card back to the distributor who in turn sent it off to XFX for testing - which it returned faulty.

The distributor cant refund my money as it would have to be refunded to company A, as I bought it on that account, and they have no stock of the 6800GT (AGP - my motherboard is AGP) and XFX are not running off any more batches of the 6800GT (In AGP format)

So.. this is why I have to choose, are there any other options? And the distributor does not stock ATI

Agree, get a refund - the options that they give you are not comparable to the 6800GT. I'd also be interested to hear who your supplier is....

EDIT just read your background post. I guess you dont really have a contract of sale with company A then By my reckoning you're gonna have to choose, i'd go with the 6800XT (for the extra pipes cf 6600GT). Not a happy place to be though, you're loosing out either way.

Can you not send it back directly to XFX ?

It is not acceptable for a company to offer you a much lower grade spec product as a replacement for something better. Do you have a receipt or anything? Was it bought on credit card? Did you buy it via company A or directly from the distributor?

    Thats a load of bull...

that makes me think it was bought via the company, in which case your cantract is with them. Unfortunately you may be looking at going via a small claims court, unless they will let you pay the difference for a 6800 ultra or give you one of those instead? The ultra price has probably come down to what you paid for the GT

About 5 years ago, I used to work in a large computer stores returns department - I know the laws changed a little since then, but I know you are WELL within your rights for it to be replaced with an EQUAL OR BETTER product.

It really annoys me when companies try and pull this crap, if you don't mind me asking, who are they?

    I agree with herulach!

If they don’t have any more AGP 6800GT cards then kindly offer to accept a PCIe version of the same type 6800GT or maybe a 7800GT. Pay the difference if need be and buy a new PCIe supporting motherboard since I have scarcely heard of a better reason to upgrade.

The proposal of a 6600 class downgrade card as an in warranty replacement for a 6800GT is borderline insulting.

sorry, got pulled off to the pub earlier - ultimately you will have a 'contract' with someone, be it directly with XFX (unlikely) ot with your old company (more likely)

But you will have a contract with someone...

Look at it this way - you walk into a Porsche dealership, buy a Porsche - 6 months later it breaks, you take it back under warranty and they say 'Sorry your Porsche broke, but don't worry, its covered by our 2 year warranty, so we'll replace it for you - would you like a Skoda or a Lada?'

Make sure you get a 6800GT or better. If XFX don't make them anymore - it will be down to XFX to provide an equal or better replacement to 'company a' whether the account is shut or not, or a refund.

yup, i'd be talking directly to xfx. they'll want to know if their distributors aren't doing an honest job surely. you are definitely well within your rights to expect a replacement of the same or better card, definitely not worse... they're not liable to give you a brand new product though i don't think. at least that's how it is with monitors

Well, I phoned XFX and the guy on the other end didnt really care. Asked to speak to a manager and he didnt care either, phoned the distributor and asked for a PCI Express 6800GT and they said "Oohh, dunno if we can do that like" - So.. I am waiting to see the outcome..
