    Have I reached my limit?

    My system

    Nf7-S v2
    XP 2500 mobile at 11 x200
    1024 crucial PC 3200
new leadtek 6800 with extra pipes and vertex shaders unlocked
coreclock up from 325 to 400
    memory clock stuck at 752

My question is everytime I try and push the memory frequency anything above 752 it says on test that the drivers failed to implement the new settings please lower.

Is this then the limit that this card will do as regards memory clock.

At the above settings everything is fine I get 4561 on 3d mark 05which is nearly a 1000 more than stock. It seems an unusually low memory overclock though these have been known to do 900???Temperatures are fine and no artifacts I can see or via ATI tool (after 12 minutes anyway)

I know its all in the luck of the draw and I should be glad the extra pipelines unlocked etc.Do you think it could be the drivers and a differant set might allow a higher speed on test.

A more experienced input would help as fairly new to this overclocking lark

    ta

Just a thought I wonder if it is because I unlocked the pipes before doing the overclock most people I have read on the net do it the other way round?Would that make any differance?

I presume you're using Rivatuner to unlock?

I found a good technique was to overclock at standard settings and save these clocks. Then unlock the pipes/shaders and reboot. I found that this gave much better results than trying to overclock with the pipes/shaders already unlocked.

Cheers schmunk thanks for your reply

    Yes I'm using rivatuner

I thought somehow that might explain it nothing to lose giving it a go

Anybody else had similair experiences on the vanilla 6800 say stuck at a low memory frequency?

Thanks schmunk what clocks did you get on the 6800le...did you manage to unlock the pipes too?

I got 12 pipes, 6 verts to something along the lines of 350/780 (from 300/700), although this was in a shuttle case, so it got very hot.

No joy looks like thats my limit tried locking the pipes up and upping the clock but still get the mesage the driver failed to intiate these settings etc try lower.Oh well upping the coreclock has given me another 3 frames in Doom so that ain't bad.

Is this a normal thing that the driver doedn't allow a higher clock on test.Tried with both coolbits and Rivatuner everything looks sweet at below that setting its just annoying I can't get it any higher. From what I know about overclcoking a card is that the limit is when artifacts appear or temperature goes above limits never come across it being limited by the driver..anybody else had this happen to them?

Just a thought its the latest nvdia driver I am using 80 something released 20/10 maybe rivatuner/coolbits don't yet function with that driver?

    thanks for your help..anyway

Have you tried it overclocked with the extra pipes locked? you might get better speeds that way, personally id try enabling them one at a time to see if anything in particular is hurting you

    thanks herulach

unlocking the extra pipes takes my score up 10% from stock on 3dmark05 from around 3600 to around 4000

if i then take to max overclock that the drivers limit me before saying "drivers failed to pass internal test at the frequencies you wanted please lower your settings" it adds another 500 points but most of this is lost again if I lock the pipes.

SO looks like I've hit my wall here but my guess is its not the card thats holding me back but the drivers????

Anyway happy with it as it is but would have been nice ot take it a bit furthur maybe try some older drivers and see if that does it.

ive read that some people are getting better results using atitool to overclock their nvidia cards, maybe give that a go or atleast investigate if it holds up

Ati tool won't overclock nvidia cards only the artifact checker and FPS facility is available for non ATI cards.

Shame though as it looks a good program.About time nvidia brought something similair out.Something that will do a safe automatic overclock.

By the way there is a facility in coolbits for automatic overclock but when I check it nothing seems to happen.Anybody used it and can tell me what is supposed to happen?
    thanks
