    Help me find a monitor!

Hi guys! Im looking for a decent TFT, currently have a cheapy 17" that ive had for about 2 years - problems include poor contrast and a couple of dead pixels. Im looking for a 19"+ that has good black definition (high contrast?) and is generally pretty fab for gaming with. I had heard that iiyama were supposd to be good. Anyone got some suggestions? Cheers!

Viewsonic VP930 is a great screen if you can afford the dosh. I've got the previous version, the VP191, which is basically the same screen witha slightly poorer contrast.

Though the response time is quoted slower then the Samsung, overall it's better VP191b vs. 930BF Response times from THG . The Viewsonic should give you better viewing angles, true 16.7 million colours (as opposed to 16.2 million) and better contrast.

Having said that the Samsung 930BF is a fantastic screen for the price and it may not be worth paying the extra wack.

if your worried about dead pixels, it's worth checking the companies replacement policy and seeing how many they allow before declaring a screen faulty. Hope that helps

Also try this guide that maybe useful TFT Selector

Cheers guys! that viewsonic does look really nice i must admit - i wonder if its worth the extra over the samsung though? That also looks like a tasty tft. Anyone know of a place that will guarantee zero dead pixels?

dunno about guaranteeing no dead pixels unless you buy from somewhere that sells Class 1 panels (generally for military or medical use) but if you buy from www.aria.co.uk they offer a dead pixel checking service for £19.95 on top of the monitor. They will check it and if there are some they will pick another one that doesn't have dead pixels.

I bought my folks a Samsung SyncMaster 710N for Christmas and I wish I'd paid the 20 quid for the check now as it arrived with a green subpixel stuck on and a flickering blue subpixel which are not enough to be entitled to return a Class II screen.

oh and for my vote for a nice TFT, I just got a 24" widescreen Dell, pure desktop luxury in 1920x1200. I find it perfectly good for games as well, just need a faster gfx card to drive all those extra pixels now
