I ordered one tonight, so i hope so :)
Im totaly trusting Rys on this one - he aint been wrong with things so far, i just hope this trend doesnt change :D
2405FPW and the 2005FPW are some of the few greatest screens to bless us this year, and relatively affordable considering. You won't go wrong if you think that your eyes really need a nice treat!
Yup, that's the one. :)Quote:

Depends how you want to run it Gfish.
You can run it in 1:1 mode so you will get black borders around your image and obviously, it will be much smaller in size but will give you a picture as though running natively, or you can stretch to fill the whole display and yes, you will get distortion.
As for your card, you are asking a lot of it if you want to do any gaming at 1920x1200
You can scale images on the montior in 3 ways;
a) 1:1 mode: - basically run in the default res with NO scaling of the video. i.e- a video with a res of 1024x768 will run at that exact number of pixels on the screen and will have a black border around the whole image. In this mode the size of the video (physically) will totally depend on the resolution, a 1024x768 image will be bigger in physical size on screen than a 800x600 one and a image of 1920x1200 will fill the entire monitor. NOTE:This mode will cause no distortion at all.
b) 'Aspect' mode - The monitor will scale the video according to the aspect ratio. The monitors default aspect ratio is 16:10 so any ivideo with an aspect ratio of 16:10 will fill the enitre screen (1280x800 for example). A video of 1280x720 res has an aspect ratio of 16:9 so it will fill the screen and have black bars along the top and bottom.
While any video with a 4:3 ratio will fill the screen and have black bars on both the left and right of the image. So, any video with the same aspect ratio will be the same size physically on screen (eg. - a 640x480 will have the same physical size on screen as a 1024x768 one, even though the resolutions are different. the images are scaled to the largest they can without distorting the image)
Note- this method will also have next to no distortion, or at most very minor distortion by enlargment.
and lastly c) fill mode - the monitor will take any image, at any res (that it can handle), at any aspect ratio and enlarge it to fill the entire screen. This mode can cause massive distortion if the aspect ratios are very different.
I run some games at lower res on my montior to keep frame rates up and to tell the truth the internal scaling of the monitor does a very good job. So yeah i don't see why you can't game at 1024x768, although to get no distortion you'll have to live with black bars on the left and right of your image though. You could try running at 1024x640 (which is a 16:10 aspect) or 1024x576 (16:9), using the monitors fill mode should give you an image that fills the enitire screen. Or even better see if you can up your res slightly to 1280x720(16:9) or 1280x800(16:10).
*sorry for the typos, 'tis a bit a late and i'm smashed..................
Got it today.
Now I just need to get it home and see if my GFX card cries like a girl at the native res. ;)
Waiting for Dell to send me one as part of an apology for being so crap replacing my 2005FPW. Wish it would come :(
I'm going to order one of these as well
/drools
Just a quick question tho, I'm not really up on HDTV, am I right in thinking when coupled with a Home Theater PC this is already an HDTV setup?
Im ready to just chuck this thing across the room now.
Colours - Best ive ever seen.
Resolution - Amazing
Picture - Pinpoint sharpness
Looks stunning in any room. Certainly has the "wow" factor.
Gaming....unplayable for any FPS ive tried. Feels like horid mouse lag. Simply unplayable for me.
Im going to back to CRT. Had enough.
Sadly, this is exactly what I found. :( I loved the style, the definition and the brightness of the TFT, but I found the motion blur to be totally unacceptable.Quote:

In the end, I picked the Lacie/Mitsi 22" CRT you see in my sig. Sure it has all the drawbacks of a mahoosive CRT, but it also has all the benefits...

I was thinking of getting the Dell 2405FPW but I heard that 1 in 5 there are
pixel problems and whinning noise when it starts up something to do with
the cable
Not had any whining noise on mine, and all the pixels seem perfect...
the whining noise was on the early ones.. that should be long fixed now
