    Question Settings Guide?

    Hi all

I've just invested in my first gaming PC for years and feel a bit out of the jargon with regards to configuring all the graphics settings etc. Is there a guide anywhere that advises which settings are best to turn on / off etc? Any gotchas when configuring it all. Will it just work or will settings need tweaking? I'd appreciate any advice.
    Cheers
    Geoff

    I've just bought:
    2* 7800GTX 512MB XFX
    Asus A8N32-SLI
    Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
    Dell 2405
    Corsair PC3500LL 2GB
    Athlon X2 4400+ (Just couldn't justify the £ for the 4800)

Well, with that spec I'd actually just play it out of the box for a good while. Playing with settings won't make any difference that you can notice, just as long as you know how to do things like increase the resolution and enable SLI.

*When* you start falling behind the times you can worry about tweaking to regain some life in the components, but until then I'd advice you don't worry about it.

I love the way you say you can't justify the money for a x2 4800 but will quite happily spend just under a grand on two 7800's xD Nice setup though.

    Justifications

I take your point, but it seemed to be

    4400 cost x
    4600 cost x +100
    4800 cost x + 200

It just seemed madness for so few extra megahertz. Which I appreciate seems crazy considering my graphics cards purchase (which is sitting with Shi*ty-Link as we speak). However I'd already splashed out for a pair of the 256MB versions and then once the new 512mbs were released I figured that it had already got so far out of control that why not.
