Thats the thing isnt it? No matter how rubbish first gen games are with these new consoles, they have huge possibilities and a full setup ie unpack the box and your ready to play is less than a high end graphics card, nevermind all the other hardware needed to create a high tech gaming rig.

I 'm not big on consoles, but I do have an xbox to play a few games, but I play much more on the pc but I just bought a second hand 6800gt agp that cost half the price of an xbox360 to keep me going a couple years. But the cost of keeping up with pc gaming in 2 years is going to be well over twice the price of a ps3 or xbo360 then which should give similar quality graphics.

Its not much of a compeition.

i agree with some of hte points here - its about on par with pc games of the mo, but xbox games will increase in quality over the next 6 months - probably at a similar rate to pc games, then slow down and eventually halt.. devs don't yet know how to get the most bang out of the consoles..

when considering the graphics though, you have got to bare in mind the price differential - compare it to the graphics from a £300 pc and you'd be blown away

Well.. point well made

Maybe I'm just sour that X360 can do 640x480 at max settings for just £299. Graphic technology on PC costs a fortune but provides only small improvements yet we all still flock to get it into our rigs.

But fairly speaking, X360 was made for gaming.. Bahh... sour again..
Me want Ultrabook

interestingly, iSuppli (http://www.isuppli.com/news/xbox/) reckons the ATI chip and embedded DRAM in the 360 costs 26.9% of the total estimated cost of $525 per box (or around $141 per chip).... ...and ATI will still be making a profit off that...
guess it helps to buy in bulk

This is one of The Great Pointless Discussions Possible Because Of The Internet, in my opinion. It's quite obvious to see why, too. The focus on graphics comparisons between the two, in terms of final output on a screen, especially so early in a console's life, utterly baffles me.

I went into woolies today and they had COD2 on their demo xbox with some little brat playing it (bless him). And i have to admit, the graphics were a bit slap, from what it appeared, there was a very low level of AA and AF, and i was expecting to see a little bit of HDR.

I think ill stick to pc gfx.

Yeah but we are on a Tech discussion forums

Agreed but the AA aint that impressive. Lets hope it gets better as devs get used to the consoles

The profit is normally made on games on any console... rather than the hardware. I think its been like that since the NES to be honest...

(its a different matter when its been about a while - as the production of parts is a lot cheaper...)

My 2 pence lol.

We are only seeing a small percentage of what the Xbox 360 can do, but once the developers get a hang of how to really utilise the power of the console, I'm sure we'll be all be blown away. I mean, to anyone who has seen the Gears of War vid and says that's rubbish and can be easily done on a mid-range PC, then they obivously don't have a clue.

Oh and the Xbox 360 can do higher resolutions than 640x480 lmao. XD

By this time next year, there will probably be graphics cards that are more powerful than all of the next gen consoles and this whole "is *input next gen console* better than PC" convo will start all over again. It never ends.

You can really judge what a console can do by the launch titles, alwyas takes a little while to get the best from the hardware. Also most people here dont have what you could consider a normal home PC. Think about how COD2 would run a PC Joe Bloggs has bought from PC world for £500, wouldnt be pretty.
