Question Best graphics card for Dell 2005FPW 20'' TFT?

Would a 7800GT be enough to game at 1680 x 1050? Or will a 7800 GTX be required for solid frame rates?....7800 GTX 512MB would be overkill right, lol?

I don't want my friend to start complaining about lag whilst I own him on the F.E.A.R multi-player.

Only a 512mb GTX or X1800XT will handle FEAR at that res.

I wouldn't get anything less than a 7800GT myself.

yeap.. dead serious.. 1600X1200 for FEAR will crucify anything below a 256MB GTX..

Unless you're into older games or dun intend to go above 1280x1024..

Crucify!

Well, luckily enough my mate is loaded (lucky sod ¬¬), so a 7800GTX 512MB should not put a dent in his massive wallet lol.

I have a Leadtek GeForce 6800 (non GT, not able to sucessfully unlock extra pipes without some sparklies, just overclocked a bit).
Have yet to try Battlefield 2 on it although I imagine i'll have to turn down some effects to go at 1680 x 1050. Will post back to let you know.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (a great game by the way) runs ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY on my system, all settings to max. Soooooo happy with the monitor running this game.

Any half-decent graphics card will run the 2005FPW, the issue is how many of the effects can you turn on (AA etc) in what games...
My advice is not to get too carried away by the hype unless you have money to burn.
Will post back re: Battlefield 2.

To be honest, in F.E.A.R with everything up high and at that resolution it will even crucify the 512mb 7800GTX! Look at the reviews yourself and you will see that nothin out yet can get it to play at that high of a resolution with all settigns up high.Well not crucify but dont expect massive frame rates. FEAR uses alot of pixel shaders etc and puts a great strain on even the best hardware atm.

My X1800XT handles FEAR fine at 1600x1200 Max details, no AA/AF of course.

Even with other games, your going to want a fast card for1600x1200, with like Doom 3, HL2, FEAR, etc.

My XFX 7800GTX 512mb handles F.E.A.R. at 1680 x 1050 with all max details apart from disabling soft shadows (which don't make a difference anyhoo imo). I got over 35FPS at 4x AA, but turned it down very slightly to 2x AA and get over 50FPS

A simple 256MB GTX should do the jobbie fine, if you really want to shell out another £60 for a X1800XT, then by all means..

If it was me, I'd just settle for a good old GTX.

Definatly, if you can find one in stock. Ive had a GTX, and this XT is much better.

To run FEAR at even 1280x1024 you need a 512Mb video card, to run with high detail settings at resolution higher than that I reckon you need to SLI/crossfire two 512Mb cards.
