    I'm biting the bullet!

    Hi!

I've always used CRTs but now I simply don't have the space, I've decided to go for a new TFT and I want to get one before that stupid tax comes in. I'm not that bothered whether it's 17" or 19" but I'm really keen for it to have DVI as I do loads of word processing. I also want it to be able to do movies great and have absoloutley no blur in games. I'm budgeting about £220ish preferably a bit under, any recommendations? Ideally I'd like it to be available from Scan so i can take advantage of their excellent free delivery and customer support (I'm also getting a bunch of other stuff of them too) Thanks!

    Shortlist So Far:
    Hyundai ImageQuest Q70U

Just some names you should be familiar of-

    Viewsonic

    Samsung

    Dell

Try and get a monitor with a 8ms refresh rate.

Thanks for that, monitor reviews are really hard to find using a search engine. Right Currently the ones I'm looking at are:

Hyundai ImageQuest Q70U - DVi not included, no Pivot, Not 8 bit
    IIyama ProLite H431-S - Not 8 Bit
Viewsonic VX724 Xtreme - low Contrast, No pivot/Height adjustment

And if its worth it I may just be able to strech to the Viewsonic VP730

Has anyone used any of these, can they recommend them? Thanks!

RavenNight, I have a Viewsonic VP171B. Its a great monitor. The only thing I dont like is the fact that the colour of it is a very dull grey than a black.

Check it out, should fit your price-range too.

    Thanks.

Go to www.xbitlabs.com and type in "LCD" in the search criteria.

They do exceptional reviews of monitors (the best on the web IMO).

Personally, I've never been a fan of the Iiyama TFTs (though their Visionmaster CRTs were excellent). My suggestions would be the Samsung 193P+ (if you want colour reproduction) or the latest high end Viewsonic range (if you want response times). Haven't tried the Hyundais so can't really comment. Dells have extremely high rate of backlight bleed problems.

Thanks for all the great responses,

I'm seriously looking at the VP171B My only worry is the contrast it seems waaay lower than some of the others I've seen.

Sadly the 193P+ is out of my price range, the 173P+ however looks intriguing..

AS much as I'd like to spend £240 + postage i can't really justify it, also I'm pretty sure a 19 inch won't fit under my shelves..

As I said, the VP17B is a great monitor. I have no problems with it. But my last monitor was crappy so I cant compare it to newer monitors.

Offtopic- Hows that cooler holding up for you (Zalman 9500). How much did you pay and did you think it was worth it?

    Thanks.

AG NEOVO F419 19'' TFT. 12ms but a superb monitor. Unfortunately Scan don't sell that one but might be a good idea to see if they can get it?
