Any idea how i can squeeze and extra 48 points out for the big 8k? Dont think i can take my gfx card any higher.

    Nice benchmark Dom.

    3DMark05: 6832

    System spec:
    - AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester running stock (2.2GHz)
    - Asus A8VE-Deluxe motherboard
    - 2 x 512MB Corsair TwinX running at 2-2-2-5 1T
    - 2 x WD Raptor 74GB
    - BFG 7800GT (pre-overclocked to 425/1050)

I'm scared of overclocking it as i've just got the system running without a hitch. Only took me 10 months!

OK, I'll bite. Haven't benched this machine since I was trying to squeeze every last bit out of my old SLI'd 6600GTs. Best I can muster is 7164 with a stock XFX 7800GT on a A64 4000+, 2Gb, a8n sli delux powered by ducks laughter.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

    -Drivers to full performance setting
-Turn off as many background apps as you can
-Rerun the bench a few times, as 43 might be in the margin of error

Maybe get a massive fan to blow on the card, just for some quick clocks on the GPU.

Also make sure your memory timmings are at there best.

Initially I got only 6063 and wondered why it was so bad, then I remembered that I'd fixed the settings a while back to 'High quality / 8xS AA / 16x AF'... lol

    So, reverting to 'High Performance / App controlled AA & AF' gave 7452 on a stock Athlon 64 X2 4200+ @ 2.2GHz / 7800GT Extreme (450/1050).

Incidentally, I tried memory timings of 2-3-3-6 and 3-3-3-8 and it made little (if any) statistical difference, with the faster timings giving a higher mark on some occasions, yet lower on others, equating to +/- 0.2 fps on the first demo, and no change in fps on the other two.

In fact, according to SiSoft Sandra, depending on the benchmark, the faster timings gave only a 0.05% - 0.9% improvement, so if anyone isn't planning on overclocking their machine, it's not worth paying the extra £60 for CAS 2 RAM, not on an Asus A8N-SLi Premium, at least. If I'd known that beforehand, I could have used that money to get a 7800GTX instead.

Expensive RAM gives at best a few percent, it's never worth the money. ;p

    I think i scored 8010 (just broke 8K) mine is cooled with a nv-78.
That was just running as i normally run, nothing turned off etc.

It passed every test i run on it, but crashed running Live for Speed!! Had to lower the CPU a little to get it to run that (maybe LFS graphics settings need adjusting?Plays every other game i have fine!)

I just install the nVidia drivers and leave them at their default settings. Is there a way to optimise them for performance?
