will ATI manage to get on the 3d Mark leaderboard?

Just read a review on a new x1800 512 xt crossfire card and the 3d Mark score of 12675 is pretty impressive.

    http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q4...e/index.x?pg=1

After looking at this I took a gander the 3d mark leaderboard and there isnt a single ATI rig up there at the moment. This is odviously due to the lack of master cards out there and how new the technology is.

Does anyone think ATI can make an imprint on nvidia (odviously using some ridicolous cooling solution)????

well Sampsa has corssfire set up running and his trying to reach 19k in 05. I think he said he managed 14k on stock cooling. Also the tP review is bit off they are using Cat's 5.11 while Cat's 5.12 have been released which is just bit foolish and if they did i due to time constraints then what can i say they should never sacrafice the quality of the review no matter what.

anyway here is link to crossfire thread @ XtremeSystems

I fully understand the sentiment behind someone saying that, but if we (the hardware sites) never sacrificed on quality we'd never publish anything. There's alway a compromise to be made, usually due to time. Scott did a fine job with what he had available to him, as always.

I doubt ATI will catch up this round - NVidia have a super exclusive beast of a card that ATI can't match. But what they do have is actually available instead

Next round ATI might have the uber-top range card in their favour, but I'm fed up of companies making just a few exclusive cards to get the top top score - it just renders the top award meaningless. But it's always going to be the case in just about any performance manufacturing area - bring on the next gen affordable mainstream cards!

What are you talking about? Did we read the same review? If you look at the 3DMark05 score the ATI Crossfire rig is well within 300 points of the dual 512MB GTX's. That is nothing my friend. That many points can be gained simply by adding one or two MHz to the GPU clock.

The reason there are no ATI based rigs on that particular leaderboard is that the Crossfire rigs are not very available at the moment. The ATI cards are extremely capable, and when the drivers mature to the level of the 7800GTX drivers I believe the ATI cards will be shown in a much better light.

I have a 7800GTX and an X1800XL. I only need one. I have decided to eBay the 7800GTX because, while it is definitely a more powerful card it is simply not that much more powerful. The image quality is not as good as the X1800 also. There is little difference power-wise at the resolutions I run, and on the games and benchmarks I care about. The primary reason I am selling the 7800GTX however is that I see video glitches that I have traced to incompatiblities.

I believe nVidia has a slightly faster card, but as a system builder I can not afford the kinds of issues I have experienced in tests with various setups. The nVidia cards should not be so buggy at this stage of the game. I've never had problems with the 6800GT, but the 7800GTX and the 6600GT have really been a problem compatibility-wise.

Oh, and the heat and noise issues on the X1800 series? Complete fiction IMO. I run a Shuttle SN25P with a 4000+ running at 2670 MHz, dual WD1200JD 120GB SATA in RAID 0 and an X1800XL. The system is as quiet as I want it to be. In spite of the tiny case the X1800XL has performed flawlessly in this system, and it's very quiet.

nVidia makes the best chipsets, but ATI is still the video leader IMO.
