    Zalman hsf for gpu

Has anyone any experience of using the zalman VF700-Cu? Im thinking of swapping my stock hsf for one - mainly for noise reasons as i cant seem to tame the stock fan . Looks like its compatible with 7800gt - whatdya reckon? Will it need those shiny blue ramsinks?

I bought an Arctic NV5 (rev.3) for my 7800GT, havent put it on yet, but all the reviews say nothing but good things about it. And its silent too.

VF700-Cu's great stuff... Keeps my 6800GT at 36C idle and 55C load... Considering my 6800GT runs hotter than current 7800s.. Ur probably looking at lower temps than what im having..

Ohh, not to mention they're dead silent.. It even barely inaudible at 5v..

Ive been thinking of one for my X1800XT, mainly for the noise, and to keep temps down.

Only thing that worries me is the ramsinks, they look cheap. How are they attatched?

I got some zalman ramsinks with my vga blocks. They're nothing fancy but do the job. They are attached by basically stick back plastic which is good for one application, two if you're extremely lucky.

they're attached using 3M thermal 'pads'.. not really pads.. just a thin white layer that phase changes when heated..

They're not cheapish, pretty top quality tbh.. they're just small and very painful to install (unless u use a towel).. pitty they're aluminium tho.. if they're copper then it'll really be good..

The fan runs a good amount of air thru the fins and to the ramsinks.. at least on 6800GT..

they're good stuff, definitely better than most stock coolers...

Highly recommend the Zalman v700 CU. Superb fan for the Nvidia cards like the 6600 6800 and the 7800. Works a treat. Very very quiet and keeps it all cool. The ram sinks are great. Easy to install. Just make sure the memory chips are clean first so that they stick fully. Attach the wire to the 5v connector and away you go!
