Quake 4 - No more Crashes!

    Hey guys,

After upgrading my system from its previously decrepid state to this:

Sapphire X800GTO2 with R480 core (Softmodded to X850)
    Asus A8N-E with 1010 bios
    3700+ Sandiego
    1gb Twinmos PC3200
    75gb raid 0
    Hiper R-Type Black PSU 480W
    Windows XP Pro x64

All above at stock! All temps and voltages are fine. Runs prime for hours and memtest reports no errors. Using Cat 5.13 and nforce 6.69 x64.

I was having major problems with quake 4, specifically multiplayer. It would crash after about 5 - 10 mins of online play with looping sound and a blue screen ( no reason displayed, just a blue screen ) Updated quake to 1.0.4 still no joy.

I was getting really frustrated until I found the custom autoexec.cfg cvar files at upset chaps! Put one of these in the base dir and wham, just been playing for 2 hours without even a glitch or a stutter! Basically, they have a range of files that are preset for various gfx cards and quality/framerate requirements.

Just thought I'd share that as I know theres quite a few people having the same problem!

Heres the link for the framerate and visual tweaks section. But if you have a browse around theres loads of other interesting stuff like benchmarking and connections tips and gameplay hints too!

    Linkage

I copied one of the configs on this page into a new file called autoexec.cfg and it sorted my problem right out.

No matter, seems to work fine now. Gonna see how much faster it is with the new DC patch.
