Ive just bought a new dell XPS600 - its got a 6800 256mb in it, but yesterday ordered a 6800GS for my old machine which im now going to be selling.
Would it be possible to SLi them both in the new dell, or would i have to flog one of them and get another the same to SLi?
from what i recall, SLI only works on identical model (abeit the different manufacturer).. mixing 6800nu and a DDR3 6800GS is a little risky.. tho they're the same core, I guess its the BIOS that matters..
You could try it out see if it works, will be some cool discovery if it does. :)
is the 6800 not ddr3 too?
Its not gonna kill the pc anyway, so ill give it a crack, in for a penny, in for a pound :)
I think the nu's running DDR rated around 700MHz..

i take it the 6800GS would be faster and id be better flogging the 6800 with the original dell if it dosent work?
The GS would be faster yeah.
nVidia enabled SLI for non identical cards a while back, but i dont know whether that means the no longer have to be the same manufacturer, or you can do different cards entirely.
Yes, the GS would be quicker. It's the same speed as the old GT, give or take a few percent either side.
And mismatched SLI means same SKU, different vendor. So two 7800 GTXs, one from MSI, one from ASUS, for example.
but the GS and the nu are going to be using the same old 12pp cores.. rite?.. (getting suspicious).. There should be a *good* chance tat it'll work.
and yes, the GS will be tons better..
Though they have the same cores I would think that they have different bios so I don't think you can SLI that pair... yet, though I doubt anything bad would happen if you tried.
check with rivatuner to see if the cores are the same
