I think the NDA on the X1900 is lifted on the 24th, which is the Tuesday, not the Monday...
    Supposedly a hard launch too!

Does sound like it doesn't it, especially as hexus seem to have had the card for eternity already.

as opposed to the 7800, which is basically a 6800Ultra, with more pipes, better memory, and higher clocks.
If this were the case then it would be a testement to nVidia's last generation technology imo. However, I have doubts.

    Doubt whatever you what.

The R300 (9700Pro) was used lots more, in the R350, then R360, then R420, then R480.

Yes the NV40 was a good design, it needed to be, the FX was a flop, they needed a complete new GPU.

Well ATI needed a good GPU after basically being out of the market for 5 months..
ATI and nVidia have gone slightly different directions now, and it's hard to say whether one is better than the other - both perform well, and both perform better in specific situations (games). I said when the X1800XT came out that there wasn't enough in the benchmarks to make me jump ship to one and i still believe that was right. That said, i'm swapping out to one now as i'm rebuilding my main rig (again) and the price is right when compared to the 512mb GTX. I've no allegiance to any brand, i just want 1600x1200 gaming with no hassles and less cost!

What i meant was that anything other than an x1900xt would be pointless as the x1800 series should of been released half a year ago opposed to 2 months. Not that the card itself is old. And that releasing more x1800's now is just silly when nvidia have a new card around the corner. Hope that clears it up abit.

also overclokers.co.uk is doing a sale on X1800 cards including Crossfire version, if you are looking to buy this a good time.

    PowerColour X1800XT 512Mb @ £279.95 - Usual price £364.19
    PowerColour X1800XT Crossifre Edition @ £314.05 - Usual price £399.44

I would have put myself at risk and bought one from overclockers if they were £279 inc vat, but they aren't unfortunately, although they are currently 249+ VAT just wish a more reputable site had some.

Any thoughts anyone on X1800XL vs 7800GT, as am in market for a new PCI-E card for no more than £250.

Both great cards. The 7800gt has the edge in terms of power/cost for me. Though I would seriously consider ATI just because of the mess NVidia have made with recent drivers.

Sorry but neither X1800 nor X1900 have impressed me. Big, hot, noisy cards that have just about managed to beat nV's offerings which have been around for months. I expected more was thinking about getting an X1800XL when they were released, but they barely seem able to beat an X850XT, so I don't think I'd see much of an improvement from my current card.

Roll on R600 and G80 tbh... although I'm hoping G71 will be something stunning!

You must be reading the wrong reviews, or just plain blind.

The X1800XT smashed the GTX 256mb in 99% of games, ecpecially when AA is concerned and kept pace with the 512mb GTX in some.

The X1900 XTX is the fastest card on the planet, in some games it has a nice lead over anything, and it's cheaper and available, not like the 512mb GTX.

Have you owned one to comment on the noise? Mine's not noisy at all. It spins up very very occasinally to loud levels, for a few seconds. It's a tad hotter than my old 256mb GTX, but only 6C at load, and it blows the hot air out of the case, so i's better for the system.

I think YOU are the blind one here sweetheart. If not, take a look at these high res + high IQ benchies:

Bitch slapped by a lowly 6800 Ultra. I guess this is in the 1% of games you mentioned?

99% of games eh? 99% of my ass more like Yes those benchmarks are cherry picked to show nV owning, but that's purely to prove you wrong. Yes ATi pulls equally ahead in games like Far Cry and BF2. Yes I am well aware the X1900XTX is the fastest card around right now, but my point here is that ATi have just now managed to equal an nV G70 chip that has been out for about 6+ months! And it IS hotter, noisier and more power hungry than G70. Do you actually bother reading the whole review or just look at the benchies where ATi is ahead? Every single review (about 7) I have read says the stock X1800/1900 cooler is noisy and not particularly efficient. But may be you are both blind AND deaf?

I found your last post to be offensive & inaccurate. Can you say fanboi? I have an ATi card, but I have also had nV cards, and will buy whichever is best at the time. In the games I play the X1800XL (specifically the XL if you bothered to read my post properly) is not that much faster than the older X850. Go and re-read reviews if you need further proof of this. My opinion of ATi's latest generation is that they are a disappointment. If you have a problem with my opinion, then go and sodomise yourself, but for your own sake don't post arrogant and idiotic remarks that make you look like a fanboi.

    It's pathetic.
