What is your current PSU? Most likely, you won't need a 600w PSU because only the most hardcore of systems would get anywhere near using that much power.

Also, what is your current system spec? This would help in determining how powerful a PSU you would need. A 600w PSU is overkill imo.

I had an Enermax 350W too

In theory it would just run that spec, but I decided not to risk it and went for a Hiper Type-R 580 modular. Seems nice and quiet.

What else can I say. It's a power supply, it supplies power. It would look cool if I had a case window, but I dont.

Allllll the wrong reasons (but I did Google for opinions first)

I went for the Hiper 580 Modular because

    a) It was Christmas Eve and I had had a really cr*ppy week
    b) PC World had em cheaper than anywhere else online (amazingly)
    c) Jeantech *sounded* a cheesy name
    d) Jeantech *looked* less cool.
    Oh and
    e) The Hiper had a cool carry box.

Like I say, all the wrong reasons. Looking at those, I should be driving a chav'ed up Nova.

It's specified for SLI anyway (or at least theres an Nvidia SLI approved logoo on the box) and on my PC (see left) the big cooling fan on it is rotating slowly, and the air is only slightly warm. Baing modular just means there are fewer wires to get in the way (which is no bad thing in my case).

The X2 3800 is a new build, the Hiper was the first power supply. I was going to re-use the Enermax 350 from my P3, but according to the mobo specs, the 350W was very much the minimum requirement.

I'm pretty sure this PSU will run all the stuff that I am likely to throw at it. SLI, extra drives etc. I got 10 quid off for ordering it online and picking it up. They had plenty in stock anyway.

The best 600W PSU is the PC & P 550W SLI, but it is very expensive (around £150)

Otherwise have a browse through the hexus PSU roundup they did a couple of months ago, they tested over 30 PSU's.

Check my system specs.......I have a VERY power-hungry setup.

I have run it now with both a 480W Tagan and a 580W Hiper.....and I only upgraded to the Hiper for peace-of-mind after checking out the PSU calculator that was posted recently, plus the fact the Hiper was on special at scan

I was also running the same system for ages but with only 1 7800GT and a QTechnologies 430W PSU.

I think power requirements are all quoted well on the safe side.

TBH, any SLI-ready PSU from a respected manufacturer would probably be fine.
