I just got my PC stuff and it's all built. However the monitor I ordered isn't DVI , I double checked the description and I'm sure it said it was, is it worth returning my monitor and buying one £70 more expensive just for a DVI monitor?
I'm hoping your gonna say its not really worth it that much cos then I can save myself time and money and grab stick in the DVI - VGA converter that came with my GFX card. If the improvement isn't very significant I may as well keep the one I have.
What monitor did you get, and where did you get it from? They might have sent you a non-DVI version of the same monitor (either by mistake, or 'by mistake'). It's definitely worth calling/harrassing them to see if they can do anything about it for free.
In my opinion, DVI is great, and certainly worth getting when buying a new monitor. But I rarely see it costing more than an extra £30/40 from a non-DVI equivalent. I don't think it's worth another £70 (especially as it sounds like your monitor cost around £120 - you'd be paying more than 50% again!).
Not sure if this will help you, but a friend of mine wanted a cheap but decent TFT, and I talked him into the £180 19" AG Neovo F419 from eBuyer. It has DVI and is a good screen (apparently extemely good for the money). :)

What moniter was it, how muich was it?
Our Hyundai Q17 looks much better on the DVI than the VGA, as does my Samsung SM940t to a lesser extent.

hmm i have to say a well setup cga monitor in my eyes doesnt look *much* different to a dvi-based one - there are tiny differences but nothing you'd really miss out on
My NEC doesn't look much different on DVI vs VGA - I can't tell the difference frankly. Never tried VGA on my dell.
Tbh if it has both, use the DVI, If it has only VGA then there wont be much difference as when they have both imputs they tend to skimp a bit on the VGA input and focus on DVI.
If you game a lot, VGA can actually be better due to the way that some games 'sense' what display modes your machine can handle.
Running DVI can be an extremly marginal gain in PQ, yet your favorite game may suddenly stop showing you the resolution you normally use.
I always try and encourage people to go DVI now, rather then later....but if you aren't going to be running stupid high widescreen resolutions, then I see no reason to pay £70 for DVI! Talk about premium extras....
My Samsung doesn't have DVi but its incredibly crisp. It actually beats the pants off my mates DVI. There isn't any real advantage to them.
I use a Dell 2005FPW, with both DVI and VGA - can't really say that one looks any better than the other.......imho, most modern TFTs lock to an analogue VGA signal plenty well enough that DVI has little bearing except for high-end, high-res uses.
I've decided to stick with the monitor I've got, it's a Samsung SM913N and it's bloody good compared to my old monitor. I'd have to go through the trouble of lugging the thing back to the post office and finding another so I just stuck with it. Pretty pleased though :D
