    7800GT for £185 too cheap ?

    Found this 7800gt for £184
    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...0&GroupID=1275

The cheapness has made me suspicious , never heard of pixelview myself so was after opions on the card/brand ?
Also is it ok to have 2 different brands in SLI as this is what i would use it for.
    Cheers for any advice.

As long as you have the 81.xx or later drivers from nVidia then different manufacturer cards will work in Sli, make sure there're the same chipset though.
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

Its only a £10-15 cheaper than scan, by the time you take postage into consideration, so a good price for sure, and perfectly inline with other online stores.

Very daftly, i'd want two matching ones, so the fans looked the same! What is your current modle?

price is good - but not excessively low. board looks to be completely reference - no fancy cooling or higher clocks to give a higher price. microdirect prob. just ordered a bulk amount and got a corresponding discount that they are passing on...

Current one is the standard XFX one which is clocked @ 475 , would this card be able to clock up to that or would i have to lower the xfx to match , cheers.

I believe the speed would drop to the lower of the 2 cards if they are not a matched set.

So push the new card as far as it will go then set the xfx to match it ?

If you are going to do that, I would suggest putting the better card (XFX) as the Primary card (if your motherboard is installed using the normal orientation) as the top card gets a LOT hotter.

The Zalman fan on my top card actually got so hot and brittle that it just seperated away from it driveshaft.

Check in the drivers and you can see how hot each card is.

Also, on the point of mis-matched cards:

I have 2 in mine (for the next few hours at least ) and my 3D Mark info states the speed of the fastest card.

Not sure what to make of that TBH

Also, a word of caution: Read up on wether there are real improvements in the software you use the most.......I tried SLI on the 4 games I play (WoW, EQ2, Q4 and FEAR) and found no improvements - yet a lot of new PQ issues.

Biggest waste of cash I have EVER spent on a PC.

Well, FWIW, the Pixelview's just gone out of stock on MD, as I found out to my disappointment .

Any guesses what the price of 7800GTs will come down to soon? I don't think they'll be bringing out a replacement for it any time soon (maybe a 7600 on PCIe wiith 16 pipes like the 7800GS AGP); 150 quid soonish? I'd love to get one of these when the next gen comes out; 100+ VAT is the sweet spot for me; got a 9800 pro for that back in the day!

    7900GT tbh?

Don't think they will ever come down to £100+VAT... remember back in the day the 9800 Pro's had 128MB of RAM. But now cards have twice as much RAM which is faster and more complex circuitry etc.

£150+VAT is probably the best price we will ever see before they get phased out?
