New Viewsonic 20" or Dell 2405W

    All

I have managed to sell my VX912 and am now looking at treating myself to a new screen. I've shortlisted to:

    Dell 2405W or the new 20.1" ViewSonic VP2030B (Midnight Grey, 15pin D-sub, DVI, 8msec, 1000:1, 300 cd/m2, 1600x1280)

    Please help me!

I am a gamer and spend my time on BF2 and FEAR....also do a small amount of video work.

    Thanks all

I've not used the Viewsonic to be fair, but i love my Dell 2405. I mainly play BF2, CS:S and X3 and this screen makes it a different experience.

One thing that you need to think about though is, do you have a powerful enough graphics card to run the 1920 * 1200 resolution? It interpolates down quite well, but a screen that big run at lower resolutions just won't look so good, and kinda misses the point.

    Whats your system specs?

The problem with the 2405 is its resolution, 1920x1200, which brings most systems to their knees when gaming......even the next resolution down, 1680x1050, is still a massive performance killer.

All depends on the games......some yes, others no.

A single GTX will play MOST stuff at the resolution (with AA off or set on lowest) but a steady 60 FPS you almost certainly will not get (I don't class dips to 20-30fps as acceptable, others are different)....SLI will be fine as long as the game takes advantage of it......but in my experience, very little takes advantage of it.

All depends what you are playing and what aa / af you want on.
I play almost solely WOW on a 6800GT and frame rate averages at 26 - 30 whixh for me is fine, its well worth it as It is the most immersive experience i have ever experienced, it makes my 19" CRT look tiny!!!!!!

Thats cause those of us who've used the 2405 know just HOW good it is

For The Win (but I'm sure you knew that )

Of course - don't actually get it from Dell themselves - unless it cheaper of course

I'd say the Viewsonic. I like Viewsonic monitors, and find dells to be prone to backlight bleeding...

    Amen to that

Think they're maybe having some trouble sourcing inventory at the moment (read my post in the Scan forum about this monitor) so it may be a couple of weeks or something. But the more demand the better
