Sweet Mary mother of *&%....my 2405 turned up

    This monitor's large.

I've finally got my 2405 and needless to say I can't actually sum up just how large it seems in comparison to my prior (and very humble) 15" Sony TFT....which all criticism aside did me proud for 3 years!

I'm in danger of losing active applications in the corner of the screen this is so preposterously large. Like dual-screen fun only there's no 'other' screen. Positively gargantuan, and an absolutely superb bit of kit.

Right now I'm clearly in full-on subjective review mode but for anyone else out there swithering like I was between the 2005 and the 2405 I can certainly say I feel I made the right decision. Bigger is better

Cheers to all for your opinions over the past couple of weeks, I'll be sure to post something more reasonable when I've had the chance to bed this thing in.

Thus far for what it's worth, no dead pixels anywhere and I just killed the lights to look for backlight bleed....nothing as far as I can see. And the sickening thing thus far is that I'm still running it on VGA until tomorrow morning!

Anyway, I think I'd better turn this off before I get an emission suntan

    Hehe,

Kempez, when I saw your posting elsewhere with a photo the 2405 didn't look THAT big...very wrong

Unfortunately my new PC (prebuilt from Mesh) turned up in good working order on Saturday, but without a licence key for XP Pro, so I still haven't had the chance to test this thing on a PC that'll do it justice, depite the fact that there's one sitting about four feet away

Anyway, I've had to fall back to my old 1.3Ghz T-Bird and its 9600XT running the 2405 on VGA as I can't get the DVI to behave.

And my main impression/report is that the scaling is incredible so this thing is useable with my 9600XT!

I've got some limited interference over the analogue connection at 1920x1200 in Windows so I was expecting some degree of fuzziness at lower res in games too...but nope. Looks incredible, even when its scaling 1280x768 up to full screen - there's very little distortion even on the analogue connector so its really a phenomenal credit to the panel. As I mentioned above, its backlight free and the panel is very evenly lit. And, no dead pixels

Any negative thoughts? Not really Well, its VERY bright (I've left it on 50% which I'm getting used to) which may tick off some people and its VERY big which could result in hernias

I'm getting used to it slowly - glad I went for the 24" but there's a big adjustment to make especially for using the mouse in games. This is something I hadn't really thought about, but previously for example in an RTS game you might have to move your pointer a few inches to select/click on a unit now I've got to move it about a foot an a half!

Obviously doesn't take much more physical mouse movement but realating to the screen differently is quite a serious adjustment and any small compensatory movements you make are correspondingly scaled up. In other words, it makes inaccurate mousing plainly obvious

I've just upgraded to a high DPI mouse too which helps on the accuracy front but its definitely going to take a couple of weeks to become used to the sensation!!!

Haven't dared try an FPS yet as I got FEAR for my new PC so I played it on the wife's laptop instead (2.0Ghz PM with a Go 7800GTX). Runs very well and looking forward to getting it going on the 2405

lol I remember that feeling when I moved from my 15" NEC TFT to my Dell 2001FP. I was like "WHOAH, WTF". Pretty immense feeling have fun dude!

Try using the DVI btw, the difference between analogue and DVI on my TFT is phenomenal. You might become even more pleased!

Yea. I went from a Sony 19" CRT (Bright) to a Cornerstone 21" (Dark-ish). It took time, but I eventually adjusted to the Cornerstone. When I got the 2405, my first impression was "SWEEEEET", followed by "I AM BLIND!!". I am pretty sure it is brighter than my CRT Sony. Now I've gotten used to it. And darker games look better in it IMO.
