    ATI Rdaeon 9600XT

Is the 9600Xt worth £135? Where i've looked, its been about £10 more expensive than the pro versin, and comes bundled withh HL2.

Also, when is it actually going to be avaliable(XT)?

from what i understand the pro version can sometimes over clock to the speed of the XT so in that sense no its not worth it ( to me ) but since it comes with HL2 ( it think its just a rebate or somthing for it ) then yes it would be worth it since HL2 is gonna be about 50 bucks USD... so thats that

I'd personally get the xt cos its newer but the difference between that, the 9600pro and perhaps even the 9500 pro will most likely be negligable, all very good card As 4 for the free hl2....its actually a coupon (ala Ocuk me noticed), also theres another strange thing with hl2, their supposidly bringing out 3 versions, a budget (just single player, can't use mods on it), a normal (singleplayer and mods) and deluxe (single player, modes and prob some t-shirt or summit lol ) my money would be the bundled version of hl2 will be the budget

I'd say practically ALL 9600PRO can exceed 9600XT speeds, ATI were very relaxed witht he clocks for the 9600PRO ... the 0.13mu was much more capable than 400mhz and the 4 pipe limitation begged for more speed. SO when you factor in o/c'ing most 9600PRO should get from 400/600 to around 540/640 while most 9600XT should get from 500/600 to around 590/640. I'd say teh RAM speed will be limiting perf so the extra 50mhz core isn't worth it. Howveer you are guaranteed 500/600 stock, the XT should have a few other refinements (like intelligent fan) and as said you will (eventually) get HL2. Biggest bonus is that all XT cards will come with a nice game bundle sporting around 6 full Valve games ... nice!

9600XT's are non existant. Look around the web, pricewatch, etc. In fact look at the front page of Hardocp.com right now. It says they will be in extremely short supply. (non existant)

But they are only slightly better than 9600 Pro's anyway.

9600XT are hard to find that's for sure and since they are little more than higher clocked 9600PRO it does seem strange. Word on the street is that ATI might do what nVidia did with the 2nd revision of the 5600ultra and end up sticking faster RAM on the 9600XT in order for it to take on the fast (but flawed) FX5700ultra (when that arrives). The 9600XT are a good 10%+ faster than the 9600PRO but once you factor in o/c'ing there practically nothing in it. Even the 9600XT are inferior to the 9500PRO but at least less so than the 9600PRO was ... still all fine cards though.

That seems like a very good price, perhaps too good. They don't have any of those Connect3D XT in stock yet and the next 9600XT up (funnily enough 'DabsValue' ones) are £145 (128MB) and £195 (256MB). The 9600PRO @ Dabs are DabsValue VIVO 128MB £105 (?) and DabsValue 128MB £120 ... which also seems a little strange. At least the £105 9600PRO is in stock at the mo and seem to be well worth grabbing, I just hope clocks are where they should be.

Word of warning......you dont really need 256 mb on these cards....so dont buy one. 128 mb is fine and dandy and on the whole, you get better memory modules on the 128's. Nothing is what it seems
