    7800GTX - OR - 7800GT (x2) - OR - 7900GT

    Hi all,

I've currently got an X800PE (AGP) and I'm doing a MAJOR upgrade in the near future, my mate has just bought a 7800GTX, but I want SLI :-) , so I'm considering the above options, any views ?

    7900GTX not an option, OR 7800GTX (x2) unfortunately :-(

I'm assuming money doesn't matter here, but you'll need one hell of a display to benefit.

Err... I think money does matter, if 7900GTX and 7800GTX-SLI are both not options

I would wait and see how the 7900GT performs and/or is priced. But that card would probably be the best bet...

Yeah, unfort money DOES matter, I want 2 be able to play the latest games at 1280 with full AS and AA and stay above 60fps, but realistically I have a £400 ceiling, thats y x2 7800GT's look so tempting (£199 inc vat atm) !
Thanks for your input tho guys, anyone know when the 7900's are due out ?

ATi cards handle AA/AF much better than Nvidia. The X1900XTX would be better IMO.

Not a fan of dual GPU's, though SLI 7800GT's, is probly the best bet, though it looses to a XTX a lot of the time.

I think you would be better off with one card, perhaps an x1900xt, and put it up to xtx speed. I think sli is only worth it when you can afford 2x the best card available.
    Not around too often!

Huh, where did that come from?

Now why would you spend 300quid for a pair of old technology cards, that are easily beaten by 1 card of a similar price?

    If you're running in 1280, buy a single 7800GTX and you're fine
To be perfectly honest I don't think SLI is necessary, a single high end card will provide you all the eye candy you can handle
