hello, I am planning a system, and am having a slight problem. What would be better, a 512Mb XFX PCI-E GF7800GTX Extreme XXX Edition card, or two 256MB XFX PCI-E *Extreme* GF7800GT cards in SLi?
Thankyou very much!!

hey, i would prefer the 512mb, as it is a better single card than a 256mb gf7800gt and plus you can always sli that later on.
I agree, single card is always the way to go as some older games don't benefit from SLi and so it just uses one card anyway. Once games start to task the 7800GTX 512MB then you can easily upgrade to another oneOriginally Posted by westside

I really couldnt reccomend buying the 7800GTX 512Mb unless your getting a good deal. The X1900XTX is faster and cheaper
Is it really faster though? Recent benchmarks with the 7800GTX 512MB with the latest forceware drivers show the cards to be very similar in performance.
but a 1900XTX can be had cheaper... and are in mass volumes.. you can barely find anyone stocking the 512MB GTX
Me want Ultrabook
Wait for the 7900 series before buying ANT gfx card.

hello, thanks for replying everyone.
So a 512 GTX would be faster than the 2x 7800 GT's? How long before most games will utilise SLi?
Also, when is the release date for the 7900?
Cebit, its like all over the internet... In other words late march early april![]()
Really? Lets see some then......Originally Posted by ExceededGoku
Or are you going to cherry pic some borked benchmarks, that are ages old, like that last idiot did.
The X1900XTX is faster than a 512mb GTX and available and a lot cheaper, so whats the disscussion?
I haven't check a lot of benchmarks but from what I have seen it all depends on the rest of your system, plus what screen resolution you run at, plus what level of AA you want.
At lower resolutions and AA, it doesn't really matter, although at the upper ends it seems ATI has a clear advantage.
Running almost everything here at 1920x1200 6xAA and it looks superb![]()

I was actually asking the question, because I don't believe the benchmarks.. And tbh I do have an X1900XTX so why would I falsify benchmarks in the 7800GTX 512's favour..?Originally Posted by Smokey21

Don't mind Smokey, he's our resident annoying ATi-fanboy spammer; I think that table shut him up temporarily though...Originally Posted by ExceededGoku

ATI also have no (well terrible) support for linux, so if you fancy dabbling at some point in the near future, go nvidia.
