    Widescreen Gaming TFT

    Hi All,

Was looking around for a standard 4:3 TFT and stumbled across this:
    http://www.savastore.com/productinfo...=4&rstrat=1000

I use computers mainly to surf and to game, and after checking out widescreemgamingforums.com, it seems that quite a few can me made to do it.

I was wondering whether or not anyone could recomend another TFT in the smae price range that is better?

There are several issues I've heard about (related to gaming) such as backlight bleed and also its unclear if you can use 4:3 resolutions that scale up to the height of the monitor but keep aspect ratio - so ideally i would be interested to hear if there is a TFT out there, in the Uk that could get around those problems??

    Thanks in advance

    JP

Try the Dell 2005FPW. Mine has backlight bleed, but it's not visible unless I switch off all the lights and go to a black screen. Maybe it's just me but I have never, ever noticed it when playing games or movies.

There's nothing you can do about the resolution - TFTs will always look better running in their native res, but on the very rare occasion I have to use a standard res (the vast majority of games I play that have been made in the last few years can run in widescreen) I switch to 1280x1024 and it looks okay. The borders take a little getting used but you can always have the monitor stretch the image.

Personally I wouldn't consider a widescreen monitor from any other manufacturer.

The Dell looks kinda...ugly with those speaker grills, but it has nice specs. Do you notice any ghosting with games?

Ghosting on a modern LCD really really shouldn't happen.

    The 2405 is completly ghost-free.

Not at all (on my 2005FPW). I haven't tried Freelancer, though - the only game I could get to ghost on my 17" Iiyama E431S (16ms) in two years of service. I've had the 2005FPW for five months, and played many games (Quake 4, F.E.A.R., Dawn of War, X3: Reunion, City of Villains, RF: Online, Crashday, and many more) and not detected even the slightest ghosting so far.

I concur with the others about the backlight 'problem' - I notice it every Windows is loading, but never after that (and I watch a lot of media on my PC, too, including Battlestar Galactica - lots of dark space scenes there!).

There seems to be issues with this monitor as its only VGA and you need to have DVi to be able to performs aspect ratio scaling. This is quite important, as my GPU isnt that great and probably wont be able to run at monitors native res. So i need aspect ratio scaling to be able to use lower resolutions without stretching games to 'fatness' mode!!!

Might hold on a bit until there are gamees playing - so i can save for a better TFT and GPU!!!
