Need some advice re Dell widescreen displays

I've got a 2005FPW at the moment, but I'm looking to upgrade to a larger Dell model. I was pretty set on the 2405FPW but the new 30" model is very tempting.

Has anyone got a 3007? What's it like with gaming? I've got a XFX 7800gtx (which supports dual-link, right?) and I'm wondering what games would look like running at 1680x1050 or 1920x1600 if I couldn't manage to run them at the native res.

And do either the 2405 or 3007 support HDCP? One reason for upgrading would be to have a proper HD-compatible display.

The 2405 does not support HDCP, although the 3007 does.

As for native resolution gaming....you may get away with it on the 2405 (some games will surely need an amount of eye-candy turned off and being a nVidia card I doubt you will get away with much, if any, AA). The 3007 - its native resolution is 2560 x 1600 I beleive, so probably no way your going to get native resolution gaming - unless you like slideshows.

Native res gaming on the whole is fine at 1920x1200 with a GTX - the 3007 will probably scale quite well and does have HDCP as mentioned above though the lack of inputs may put you off it.

So the 3007 has HDCP but not component, and will require a lot of power to run games at native res, while the 2405 has component, will work fine on my current hardware but isn't a massive leap over my current 2005.

What are the chances that an updated 3007 will come out that includes component? Because I'd really like to run my consoles through and use it as a TV as well as a monitor.

I doubt it very much.

I would have thought that the 3007 would have had component, the fact is doesn't makes me think they are leaving analogue HD inputs behind in favour of the HDCP protected HDMI interface of the future.

If you can live with just an XBox360, you can get a VGA lead for it (super picture but has problems with some old XBox1 games running in emulation), you can also get VGA setups for other consoles but TBH, the rest seem expensive for what you get.
