    1 Widescreen or 2 17's TFTs

Hi, as above really been thinking about one of the Dell widescreens for a while now, probably the 20incher due to my budget but was just wondering would I get better value for money, more screen space, and better performance getting 2 x 17inch tft's?

    Cheers

2 singles is fine if you want to do apps like photoshop and premiere, where you have numbers of windows within one application.
2 seperate monitors becomes a serious pain if you have one window (such as a video or a game) that spans over.

So it depends what you want to do.

In terms of outright pixels, you get more from 2 x 17" (5:4 aspect) monitors, than one 20" 16:10 .

I don't play too mant games at them moment as my graphics card isn't up to much, but I am planning to upgrade it within the next 12months. At present my pc is used mainly for the internet, and photo editing. I really want a widescreen monitor but am trying to justify the price when I can probably get 2 17"s for the same price.

    Cheers

mate i had the exact same problem - do you go for the widescreen or 2 singles? well i decided to go for the two singles. As mentioned above, if you do game then go for the Dell, but if you do more applications work where you would need split screens then the twin monitor is the option.

You also mentioned that you are thinking of the Dell 20" - for a couple of extra quid you could poss get 2x19"

Would I have problems due to my graphics card running 2 monitors as I have 1 DVI and 1 VGA? The new monitor set up is in preperation for my new pc as I want to build my own from scratch so will probably take me a while to complete.

i posted a similar questions a few days ago - my TFT will have both VGA and DVI and my gfx has one of each - i have bought a DVI splitter cable to run both TFT's off 1 output so will so how it goes

No problems, as long as the monitor have the neccessary VGA input on at least one of them. So one monitor can be connected using VGA, the other using DVI. Alternatively both monitors can be run using VGA, you'll just have to use a DVI-to-VGA dongle on the graphic card's DVI output. This dongle is usually bundled with the graphics card, but if you don't have one they are very cheap to buy.

For photo editing and video editing I prefer two screens. Of course there's nothing stopping you from having a widescreen monitor as one of the two screens (funds permitting).

For work productivity I often find 2 screens to have the advantage.

    For leisure, 1 larger screen.

    Depends on your priority

If you do that then surely you'll have exactly the same image on both screens? You would've been better off running the primary monitor off of the DVI and then either plugging the secondary monitor into the VGA or getting a VGA to DVI convertor.
