Performance boost in most games
I read this article over at OCWorkbench about enabling triple buffering in games. It's a very interesting article, but i was a bit sceptical over the increases in fps that they were talking about, ie from 41fps to 53fps in FEAR, just by enabling triple buffering.
So i tried it for myself.
Here are the results that i got just by enabling the triple buffering:
------------------------- Before ----- After ------ % increase
Call of Duty 2 -------- 25.7 fps --- 31.3 fps ------ 21.7%
FEAR ------------------ 47 fps ----- 56 fps ------- 19.1%
NFS: Most Wanted -- 40.7 fps --- 46.8 fps ------ 14.9%
Rthdribl --------------- 29.9 fps --- 34.5 fps ----- 15.4%
Age of Empires 3 ---- 36.2 fps --- 38.7 fps ------ 6.8%
Just follow the simple instuctions in the link above, remember that you will need .net framework v1.1 or higher for the DirectX Tweaker to work. The results were recorded using Fraps, apart from FEAR which has its own built in benchmark.
Can people report back with there results and their graphics card gpu and memory size? i.e. 7800GT 256Mb, as i would like to see how the results vary with different memory sizes.
