AGP 8x problem. Asus and Hercules.

Ok guys, heres the problem :

chipset supports 8x AGP data rate, so does the graphic card.
There is _NO_ option in the BIOS to change the data rate.

All there is is AGP Apture size and that's that.

Motherboard: Asus P4C800 Deluxe
Graphic card: Hercules Radeon 9800 (Non-Pro)

OS: Win XP pro

I can however change the data rate to 8x in windows in the hercules driver settings.

When you do it wants you to restart and after you've done that it's set back to 4x again.

(This is a quick post for a friend, so sorry its not very flowing )

Any kind of help would be much appricated, thanks in advance!

Well in Gigabyte mobos you press CTRL+F1 to get advanced tweaking options in the BIOS, maybe your mobo has somethign similar? It would usually need to be set in the BIOS, WIndows drivers can usually switch it down but not usually up. Anyway don't sweat it as even on an o/c'ed 9800 AGP8x doesn't even hold a 1% gain over AGP4x, annoying but nothing to worry about. Perhaps try the latest mobo BIOS and drivers?

um, is fastwrite enabled, iirc (which i probabaly wont ) fastwrite is aka 8x so turn it on, if u have the option

IIRC fast writes came out when AGP4x was introduced along with Sideband Addressing. A lot of crap was talked about them, none of which held any real world benefits (much like AGP8x), in fact fast writes can cause issues esp with Radeons so you can disable it happily.
