Just spent 20 mins removing a gainward cooler and placing vf900 on my AGP6800GT. I used the artic cooling mx1 as tim already showing cooler temps idle 42 from 51 and the artic cololing gets better with age.
Easy install and it looks like better temps when compared to the gainward which was recognised as one of the best oem coolers.
So far then a big :mrgreen:
How tall is the cooler, thinking of getting one for my X1800XT eventually.. :D

Had one of those on a 7800GT, the fan died within 3 months and is irreplacable.
It used to get damn hot as well, don't think I would risk it on an x1800/x1900
Arent those the VF700s? I thought these were the new and improved stuff?

it depends on the airflow in the case, the artric cooler advantage comes when there is no air flow inside the case, other wise I will go for the zalmanQuote:

I reckon the Thermalright V1 would be a better choice, at least you should be able to choose your own fan.

There are a couple of things I like and don't like about the Thermalright though. Core cooling is tremendous - my temps are down 20 degrees under load since I put this thing on. Also, as the fan is on top of the card and set to suck, the hot air from the heatsink is sent directly into the path of the rear exhaust fan, so is immediately exhausted from the case.
The only other real problem is the cooling for the voltage regulators - they get really really toasty (have seen 110C! :surprised: ). I've stuck a bunch of Zalman ramsinks on 'em and this has helped a lot, but with no fan on the bottom side of the card, if I clock it right up the heat gets a bit too much to bear and I get a VPU recover. I could stick one of those PCI-slot exhaust fans in I suppose, but they're so insanely noisy I'm not sure if I can stand having all my good work quieting the beast go to waste. I suppose they may be not as bad if driven off of 5V, and they're only a fiver or so, so I may try this anyway. If you have a side-panel fan intake or exhaust that points even vaguely in the direction of the graphics card, you probably wouldn't need to go to these lengths though. To be honest, if I ramp up the intake fan speed, they keep a lot cooler (surprise! ;)).
Does the vf900 work on the 7800gtx and does occupy a second pci slot???
Also does it work well if it's mounted vertically (think link a desktop system)
