First of all, Doom 3 and Half Life 2 aren't even out... I'd suggest waiting for the games to come out before committing your money...

Second - what card are you using now?

Get what you can afford - they will all run pretty close to each other in terms of performance in current games and all seem good value for money ... as far as playing doom3/HL2 goes of course they will run these games, so long as the system you put them in is reasonably current spec - you can be sure of this even though the games aren't out yet ... both companies would be shooting themselves in the foot if only the top 1% of PC owners could play their new release.

... what you can't be sure of, is how well they will run doom3/HL2 - going by previous releases from the ID stable and having played the leaked alpha of doom3, I am guessing only here, it is likely that you will be able to run doom3 at 60fps no problem with a 9700Pro+ card at 800x600 with everything on - higher resolutions are likely to give you system more trouble.

at those prices the 9800np is your best bet (if you get the 2.8ns memory) cos then you can flash it to a pro...

edot: actually to be honest that 9700pro looks very very tasty....

the 9800np is actually not as good as the 9700pro. Cheaper price for a better card- you cant lose
