Umm.. Nvidia Jump-ship'ers journey to X1800XT overclocking.. and sunk..

Alright.. This is the 2nd ATI card I've owned and the last one was a measly 9600XT..

Now I have a X1800XT 512MB, just needs some pointers and recommend some good softwares to overclock this card.. Tried using the Overdrive self-testing thing to find the card's limit, but crashed... 3 times in a roll.. I thought it would be as jippy as the coolbits reg for Nvidia... apparently not..

Wanted to use Riva but sort of heard someone saying that it hasnt fully supported X1800s yet.. Hmn, any pointers? How about ATI tools?

Some bonafied guidelines would be better..

lol CCC has to be the worst program ever made by man, other than windows itself . There is actually a overclocking tool made by ATi that is really quite good for overclocking, you can even adjust the voltages to get maximum overclocks. Linky here
    Enjoy
BTW try reinstalling CCC to fix it?

alright.. i got it working.. cheers..

But the question is, if I set this to run say 700/1600.. will CCC recognise it or sort of conflicts with the other settings?

Why in the name of God would you overclock a GPU that's starting to be choked by the CPU?

How so? My XT clocks perfectly happily using Overdrive up to 690/800 if I turn all the fans in my case up full. If I don't want to sound like the flight deck of the Ark Royal, it still runs beautifully at XTX speeds.

Yeah I can overclock mine to 690/800 easily...but ATI tool locks up the card even with the ATI services disabled.

yes the amount of support from 3rd party tool makers is kind of poor, our cards have been out for roughly 2 months now and nothing... X1800 has been out for an even longer time........

Hmn.. wondering whether the dynamic clocking up and down from 600MHz / 1400MHz to 650 / 1550 would actually damage the poor thing?

My experience with Nvidia is that both 2D and 3D clocks are pretty much the same..

ATI Tool is very good for overclocking.

My housemate got very good results on his X800Pro

Im having a few problems on my X1800XTPE though, as ATI Tool wont recognise my card.

    Any suggestions?
