A short while ago my 6800GT died. I have an RMA number but still haven't got round to sending it off. A friend has kindly lent me an old graphics card just so I can get my computer back up and running, and I can't for the life of me get more than 640x480 with 4 colours.
Win 2000 and Win XP doesn't recognise the card, if I try and install with the drivers from Videologics site http://www.videologic.com/ I get an error telling me to remove the current installation, reboot the system and run the install program again. Problem is, there is no display adaptor listed in the device manager and I can't even add a device and set it up as a standard VGA adaptor coz it won't find it.
So, then I tried Linux. Installed the latest version of Debian (the only one I'm pretty familiar with) and the same thing happens, though in Linux it's running at 416x312 and with about 4 colours too. I've searched as well as I can to find drivers for this kind of card and I've also tried using generic VGA and VESA drivers and it still won't work.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I'd preferably like to get Linux drivers installed (and help as to how to install them would be great as I've forgotten), but if you know of any XP drivers that work for this very old graphics card I would appreciate it.
I might even try Win 98 next... /eek
