Do you know where you can import a VF1 from? I see someone is selling them on EBay for 22Euro but they will only ship in Germany
As for the ViperJohn mod......are they available to buy? I couldn't find a website for them...

He sent me the kit, and i installed it myself, which he normally doesn't do, but ive worked him before. Normally you send the card to him, which id reccommend, as he's the best there is at this kinda work.
The cooler is nice, the raminks totally kick ass, i haven't really pushed the card, i could game at 700/820, fine, but ATI-tool ****s up my system, and re-boots it and other crap, so atm iam at stock.
At lowest settings, the fan is totally silent, and at full, it's a little loud, can hear it over the rest of my system, but it's way way better than the stock cooler. Temps are around 60c stock, and my case isn't that well ventilated.
I think to be honest, these cards, are a bit much for air cooling, if you plan on pushing them. The lack of software doesn't help either.
Id email John, he's a great guy and will be more than willing to help.
that does look borderline sexy smokey

That just look plain ugly lol, but dont get angry, i know how crazy that cooling is, use to do the same thing on my Radeon 9500. And seriously, doesnt that gonna rip the PCI-E slot of the mobo ?Originally Posted by Smokey21

No, cause it's not that heavy, aluminum heatsink. Who cares what it looks like?
Cheers Merlin, i think it's time i fun some decent software. What else can i use instead of ati tool?
Theres this Ati overclocker tool.. let me remember wat its called.. oh wait, its just called 'overclocker'..
sorry not much help.. but I found out that its much more reliable than CCC, ATI-tools or Riva.. got mine up to 710/805, but getting way too hot under load.. put it back to stock for now..

So.. when my X1800 XL arrives, and if i find the stock fan just too noisey.... whats the best GPU cooler to switch it out with? I'm a complete novice at anything like that.
Zalman VF700?

I seriously doubt the VF700 could cope with the X1800XL heat output. I cannot stress how hot these cards run. The VF900 would probably be ok, but personally i wouldnt trust it.
My favourite cooler has just got a new review at toms (ok not the best site but still)
http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/04/14..._uk/index.html
Just need a UK vendor now.
The KuFormula is pretty good, but I hope they solve the compatibility issues with X1800 cards, esp the screws.. I'm not prepared to go fumble in the attic looking for screws that will 'probably' fit.. and the position of the diagonal fan doesnt help either..
But nonetheless, if they'd fix those problems.. the cooler looks to be a hit, as with the Turbo2..

It can handle it mate. Its just the X1900s push it too far. I had one on my old X1800 XT and it worked greatOriginally Posted by [DW]Cougho
So far the stock cooler seems to be the best performing air cooler (bar custom jobs like ViperJohn's) it's just very noisy. The only reason to get a different cooler currently is for quieting it down.
I'd really like to get one of ViperJohn's sinks but I'd prefer to fit it myself cause then I don't have to wait a couple of days while he works on it . I'm too addicted to gaming to make that kind of sacrifice.
I reject your reality and subsitute my own.
VJ's is good, but it still has limits. If i start using extra volts, at and over 700 core it starts to get a bit hot, unless i turn the fan on high, which is to loud.
Iam happely running 675/800 stock volts, just using CCC, want a decent program to use, there still isn't one.
