Question 7900GT Standard, XT and XXX

Is there really a huge difference between these versions of the 7900GT?
The price range is about £70 across the XFX cards, but are the top end cards worth the extra?
I'm considering an XFX 7900GT 550M XT, which is somewhere in the middle, but I'm just guessing really.

XT would have been more than enough, personally I would go for the standard one as I'm not looking that far on overclock.. Too bad I didnt manage to wait, went for a X1800XT instead..

for sure coolbits will fnid the optimum of your card and more often than not its equalt to that of the xxx,
for example my 7800 gtx oem at standard was 430/1200 i then used coolbits for its auto overclock and its at 490/1331 which is the xxx xfx version and a saving of 120 quid

ah, I see - thanks all.
I'm not familiar with all the overclocking options, so I was prepared to pay the extra to do nothing to the card. If coolbits is that easy to use,, I'll try that route instead

Just got my 7900gt (tekvalue) which turned out to be a club3d but nevermind.

Fitted my vf900 just now with only 3 springs, nice job zalman quality control. Auto detects at 553/1568, which is pretty good and about 5fps faster than my X1800XT was at stock on rthdribl.

Next comes the voltmods and manual overclocking.

I would still go for an X1800XT tbh.. I finally got mine running at 700/1620 yesterday and its flying.. You can get the 256MB flavour for about £200, which I think its a great price..

    I have the 512MB tho..

EDIT: As a compliment to Nvidia, its coolbits tool is SO MUCH easier to use than the flaky .NET CCC for ATI stuff.. I have previously owned alot of Nvidia stuff, and they all clock pretty well with coolbits.. If rainbow isnt around, you can PM me and I'll walk you through the harder bits in pushing every last 24 pixel pipes to its limits..

yeh the X1800XT was probably slightly better than this, but it had major issues with my mobo and was constantly crashing. Plus the 7900gt had lots of easy voltmods so should be pretty good by the end of it.

cool - seems this is an excellent forum
I'll probably go for the standard 7900gt and get coolbits to do its stuff.
I'll be sure to check in with whoever is around to help me out if I get stuck!

I am another who would agree on getting a standard 7900gt....the othes are just bios overclocked not worth paying the extra when you can do it yourself....how high do they overclock....well i gues that's how lucky you are but all overclock very well some just a bit better than other's....but if you vmod them then they become a monster of a card.....my standard 7900gt put to it's limit's score's in 3DMark05=11734 + 3DMark06=6687 that's with a opty dual core @ 2.8ghz.

just get some conductive ink, used to repair heated windows in cars from halfords or ebay. Conductive pens are like £20 and can be had from maplins i think.

Thanks trojan698....and i'm waiting for one of those to go SLI....and conductive paint on ebay £6.75 delivered around 1/3 of the price of a pen would cost and you'd have to apply it the same way either with a sharpened match or toothpick.

Hmm im looking for a 7900, the XXX edition is £250 at savastore! (Link) Its good value, but I suppose you could get the lower model and OC it! So would it be better to just get the standard XFX version at £200? (Link) The clock speed is 100mhz higher on the XXX but for £50 more!
